Winter 2019 2 PAN PIPES Dear Members of Sigma Alpha Iota, T he receipt of the Winter issue of PAN PIPES signals the mid-year point of our Fraternity year. It is aptly labeled "winter " as many of our members have experienced incredibly cold and snowy weather. Hopefully, spring will be here before we know it! Before I go any further, please take a moment and look at the bottom of this page. Be sure to save the date of our 2021 National Convention in your calendar, which will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina from July 29th-August 2nd. As you can see from various articles and pictures included in this edition of PAN PIPES, our National Conventions should not be missed! One of the major events that came to fruition at our 2018 National Convention was our capital campaign to raise $100,000 to support Pan's Cottage at the MacDowell Colony. Through the generous support of individual members as well as chapters across the country, the campaign was an overwhelming success and we met our goal in record time! Kudos to Heidi Frankson, the SAI Philanthropies Board Chairman, and her hard-working board members. I cannot thank you all enough for furthering the cause of music in the name of SAI. I also want to remind you to apply for the numerous scholarships and grants offered annually by SAI Philanthropies, Inc. Of note is our $5,000 Career Performance Grant, which this year is for Voice. You must be a member in good standing within the Fraternity to be eligible to apply for these awards, so please take the time to confirm your membership status with your chapter and/or National Headquarters. The deadlines for these scholarships and grants are in early March, so start your applications today! As we continue our SAI journey this spring, we welcome new members in our collegiate chapters and affiliates into our alumnae chapters. I am so proud of all of our members who continue to spread the power of music. Truly, SAI is a priceless gift in our lives, our communities, and around the world. Fraternally, Leslie Odom Miller, National President A WORD FROM THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT The 2021 SAI National Convention will be held in from July 29-August 2, 2021 at the Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons-Koury Convention Center.
