PAN PIPES Summer 2019 27 DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS North Carolina at Greensboro, where he won the university concerto competition and received the Presser Foundation Scholarship. Dr. Krebs performed on recitals at the International Clarinet Association Conferences (ClarinetFest), and he presented a lecture on the clarinet soloists of the John Philip Sousa Band at the 2006 ClarinetFest in Atlanta. He also participated on the judging panel for the 2010, 2011, and 2015 ICA Research Competitions, and served as the ICA Research Coordinator from 2016 to 2018. His articles have been published in The Clarinet journal, The Instrumentalist magazine, the NACWPI journal, and the Missouri School Music magazine. Dr. Krebs also presented a clinic on teaching clarinet at the 2009 Missouri Music Educators Association Conference and was featured as concerto soloist with the Truman Wind Symphony at the 2014 CBDNA Conference in Fayetteville, AR. He has premiered works by composers Paul Chihara, Robert Tindle, Man-Ching Donald Yu, Victor Marquez, omas Dempster, Charles Gran, and Nicholas Maluf. Kathleen Mulcahy Kathleen Mulcahy was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Mu Epsilon Chapter at George Mason University in March. Mulcahy is Director of Woodwinds and Assistant Professor of Clarinet at George Mason University. She performs regularly with the National Symphony and Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestras, and holds the position of principal clarinet with the Alexandria Symphony. Previously, Dr. Mulcahy was second and Eb clarinet with the Buffalo Philharmonic and Grant Park Orchestras, and instructor of clarinet at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Dr. Mulcahy is an RYT 200 certified yoga instructor, and presents workshops and classes for musicians on the topics of body awareness, mindfulness, performance anxiety, and stress management. She holds a Bachelor's and Doctorate from e Ohio State University and the Master's and Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Margaret Owens Dr. Margaret Owens was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Mu Epsilon Chapter at George Mason University in March. Dr. Owens teaches historical oboes in the Early Music Institute at Indiana University, modern oboe at George Mason University, and is the founder and director of George Mason's new baroque chamber ensemble. In demand as a performer on historical oboes, she appears with many of North America's period-instrument ensembles, including American Bach Soloists, Apollo's Fire, Ars Lyrica, the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, Mercury Baroque, North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, and Tempesta di Mare. Recent concerts include solo appearances with Arcanum, Berkshire Bach, Chatham Baroque, Four Nations, REBEL Baroque Ensemble, and the Sebastian Chamber Players. Dr. Owens plays with Opera Lafayette, the Folger Consort, the National Cathedral Baroque Orchestra, the Washington Bach Consort, the Friends of Fasch, and Modern Musick. On the other end of the performance practice spectrum, she enjoys playing modern and contemporary chamber music for woodwinds and has premiered a number of new works featuring oboe and English horn. She has recorded for the Naxos, Koch International Classics, and Eclectra labels. She holds a Bachelor's in Oboe Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Master's in Oboe Performance from Manhattan School of Music, and Doctorate from City University of New York, where she began her work on the oboe band tradition at the courts and chateaux of Louis XIV. Subsequently, she has lectured on and led recreations of dramatic masquerades by the Philidor family of wind players. Dr. Charles Pickeral Dr. Charles Pickeral was initiated as the Friend of the Arts by the Gainesville Alumnae Chapter in March. Dr. Charles Pickeral, the Director of Operations of the University of Florida School of Music, earned a Bachelor's of Music Education from James Madison University. He served as a featured performer and clinician in the U.S. Army Band program. Aer the service, he remained in the Chicago area where he was an active player in orchestral, chamber, popular, folk, and jazz settings. His longstanding interests in cross-disciplinary teaching, non- major arts education, and working with non- traditional and first general college students led him to pursue a Master's Degree in Horn Performance from North Illinois University and an interdisciplinary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Texas Tech University. Dr. Pickeral has held faculty positions at North Michigan University Bluefield State College, Concord University, the University of Florida, and Santa Fe College. He was also the manager of online education and instructional media for a .com startup that grew to become the larger private-sector provider of music instruction in the nation. He has been the Director of Operations for the University of Florida School of Music since 2008 and balances his administrative duties with teaching in the Honors and Quest programs. Matthew Tracy Matthew Tracy was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Nu Beta Chapter at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in April. Saxophonist Matthew Tracy is Assistant Professor of Music at SWOSU, teaching Music eory and Saxophone. He has performed as a guest artist and clinician across the United States and has won awards in the Fischoff, Plowman, Coleman, MTNA, and North American Saxophone Alliance chamber music competitions. As a student at Michigan State University, Tracy was selected as a winner of the Honors Concerto Competition. He has also performed as a soloist with the MSU Symphony Orchestra on Mussorgsy's Pictures at an Exhibition, and as a soloist with the Holland (MI) Symphony. An advocate for new music, Tracy has premiered new pieces for saxophone by composers such as Reynold Simpson, Phillip Sink, Justin Rito, Curtis Smith, and Andy Francis. Tracy holds a Bachelor's of Music from Central Michigan University, and Master's and Doctoral degrees from Michigan State University, studying with John Nichol and Joseph Lulloff.
