ARTHUR GOTTSCHALK NEWS: Commissions have been keeping me close to the piano and writing desk since returning from Bogliasco, Italy, at the end of last year. I have nonetheless managed to get some travel in, including two trips to San Diego and one to Dallas in my role as National Board Member for Music Composition for the College Music Society. Additionally, I did a residency at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas and another in Ann Arbor. I worked for the College Boards in Cincinnati this summer, and traveled to New York for the theater and Mackinac Island for the scenery. My cello sonata, In Memoriam, was recorded by Ovidiu Martinescu for Parma Records in August, and my Sonata for Alto Saxophone was recorded by Mario Ciaccio in September for Editions Delage. I am looking forward to my two trips to Cuba this winter, during which I will work with Enmanuel Blanco, of the Laboratorio Nacional de Música Electroacústica.
