PAN PIPES Fall 2019 63 OPPORTUNITIES CONCOURS MUSICAL INTERNATIONAL DE MONTRÉAL: PIANO 2020 The Concours Musical International de Montréal is an elite-level international competition open to women and men of all nationalities, who are intending to pursue a professional career in classical music. The jury will be presided by Zarin Mehta. Names of jury members will be unveiled in January 2020. Piano 2020 offers more than $150,000 (CAN) worth of prizes, awards and grants. Each competitor must include at least one work by J. S. Bach in their First Round or Semifinal programme. You must include the imposed Canadian work (6 minutes) in your semifinal recital programme. All other works are chosen by the competitors. Repertoire selected for performance during the competition rounds may include any of the works recorded for the audition videos. No other duplication of repertoire is permitted. Deadline: Nov. 15 Website: concoursmontreal.ca/en/the-competitions/ piano/ U.S. MARINE BAND B-FLAT CLARINET AUDITIONS "The President's Own" United States Marine Band is America's oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its mission is unique: to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Marine Band musicians perform frequently at the White House in small ensembles, chamber orchestra, concert band, and as soloists. The Marine Band performs for a wide variety of commitments, to include public concerts, recording sessions, touring, chamber music recitals, military ceremonies, and state functions. Today's Marine Band is composed of roughly 160 of the nation's finest musicians and support staff. Those selected for the U.S. Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra are exempt from recruit training and are appointed to the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) under a contract. Auditions will be held on December 9, 2019, in Washington, D.C. If not completed on December 9, auditions will continue on Tuesday, December 10. Applicants will be placed on the audition list upon the Marine Band's receipt of a current résumé and completed applicant factsheet. These items should be received by the Marine Band before the day of the audition. Website: https://www.marineband.marines.mil/ Audition date: Dec. 9 ASSOCIATION OF CONCERT BANDS YOUNG COMPOSERS COMPOSITION CONTEST IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE JOHN PHILIP SOUSA FOUNDATION There are over a thousand community bands in the United States and more across the globe looking for new music that fits a more traditional style of concert band literature that audiences will enjoy. This composition contest is intended for composers under 30 years of age writing a 3 - 5 minute duration piece of original composition for concert band at a grade level of roughly grade 4. The composer will receive an award of $2,000 and reimbursement up to $1000 for travel expenses to attend the ACB Convention for the premiere if available to attend. The piece will be premiered at the annual convention of the Association of Concert Bands to be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico April 27-May 2, 2021.
