PAN PIPES Winter 2020 23 NATIONAL ARTS ASSOCIATE a man or woman who is nationally recognized for distinguished contribution to the arts T I M OT H Y C H R I S T I E Timothy Christie was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Tacoma Alumnae Chapter in September. Christie and his wife, Maria Sampen, both serve on the facility of the University of Puget Sound with the Department of Music. Although they oen perform together, each enjoys their own successful career. Timothy Christie, violinist and violist, has a multifaceted career as a performer, teacher, public speaker, and recording artist. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival in Walla Walla, Washington and is a member of the IRIS Orchestra in Memphis, TN. As a recitalist and chamber musician, Christie regularly collaborates with leading artists and ensembles in the industry that include ird Coast Percussion, Spektral Quartet, PRISM Quartet, PROJECT Trio, Sybarite5, Turtle Island Quartet, the Harlem Quartet, and e Westerlies. He is the solo violist of the new music ensemble, Brave New Works, since 1997. Christie is heard on the recordings of William Bolcom's Piano Quintet and William Albright's Clarinet Quintet on AMP Records. Christie has ventured into the music business over the years having recorded numerous film and television video game scores. He has performed with Queensrÿche, Belle and Sebastian, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Christie earned undergraduate degrees in Music and English Literature at the University of Michigan, and a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. His teachers included Andrew Jennings and Paul Kantor (violin), and Yitzhak Schotten (viola). B R I N A B O U R L I E A FA C I A N E Brina Bourliea Faciane was initiated as a National Arts Associate by Mu Rho Chapter at Southeastern Louisiana University in November. Brina is an instructor of saxophone at Southeastern Louisiana University and the faculty advisor for Mu Rho chapter. Brina has performed and taught in the United States, Canada, Italy, Cyprus, and most recently Strasbourg, France at the 17th World Saxophone Congress with Quartetto Obrigado. She was 3rd place winner at the MTNA National Soloist Competition. She has worked on collaborative projects for saxophone and electronics and saxophone quartet with notable young composers Ben Stonaker and Christopher Scinto, and previously she was assistant to the director of Festival Internationale del Sassofono in Faenza, Italy. Brina is a member of the Prodigal Players, which recently finished a local tour of Terrance Mahady's modern arrangement of Stravinsky's e Soldier's Story. Since settling in Louisiana, she teaches privately and in the St. Tammany Parish Talented Arts Program. Students from her private studio consistently earn top spots in the LMEA All-State Honor Bands and Jazz Ensembles. Brina holds degrees from Arizona State University and Louisiana State University. She is also a professional member of the North American Saxophone Alliance and Music Educators National Conference. D R . R I C H A R D J E R I C Dr. Richard Jeric was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the eta eta Chapter at Nicholls State University in September. Dr. Jeric is currently a Piano Instructor at Nicholls State University. He also teaches at the Brancaleoni Internal Music Festival in Piobbico, Italy during the summer and at the Inner Mongolia International Classical Music Festival in Tongliao, China during the winter break. Dr. Jeric is an astonishing pianist and has performed for the U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Washington, D.C. He has also performed for e Song Continues, a series of masterclasses founded by Marilyn Horne at Carnegie Hall. He has participated in many summer festivals, including SongFest, Beethoven Bootcamp, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the CCM Prague International Piano Institute. He has worked with many well-known performers, including pianists Graham Johnson, Warren Jones, Martin Katz, and Ken Noda, and vocalists Renée Fleming, Nancy Gustafson, Marilyn Horne, Karita Mattila, and Deborah Voigt. Dr. Jeric obtained his Bachelor of Music degree at Kent State University under Jerry Wong, Master of Music degree and Artist Certificate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory under Robert Weirich, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Shenandoah Conservatory under internationally renowned pianist John O'Conor. He has received many awards and recognitions, including : the Shenandoah Conservatory Student Soloist Competition, University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory Concerto and Aria Competition, Jefferson City Symphony Orchestra Piano Competition in Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri Mu Phi Epsilon Scholarship Competition, Wichita, Kansas Piano Award from Nazger Young Artists Auditions, St. Louis, Missouri Artis Presentation Society, and Kent State University Concerto Competition. D R . J O H N S T. M A R I E Dr. John St. Marie was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the eta eta Chapter at Nicholls State University in September. Dr. St. Marie is currently the Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities at Nicholls State University.
