FALL 2020 21 PAN PIPES SIGMA ALPHA IOTA ANNUAL AWARDS 2 0 2 0 COLLEGIATE SERVICE PROJECT AWARDS The Alpha Chapter per formed at the Skyline Café at the CS Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. Alpha Chapter paired with the music therapy team at CS Mott Children's Hospital (part of Michigan Medicine) to provide live music through the hospital's Skyline Café. Skyline Café takes place each Thursday evening in a commons area of the hospital. Patients and their families attend these performances, and the performances are live streamed for those who are too sick to attend the Café in person. Food is provided for families and patients as well. Alpha Chapter members participated in one Skyline Café before restrictions were put in place due to COVID-19. This, however, did not stop the music. The music therapy team at Mott put out a call for performers to record themselves, and those performances were streamed in the hospital. Alpha Chapter members answered this call and submitted recordings for the virtual café. This is a new and unique collaboration for Alpha chapter that they hope will continue in the future. CATEGORY 1 (1-20 MEMBERS) Alpha Univer sity of Michigan, Alpha A , Region VII This year the Theta Gamma chapter held a Healing Power of Music Symposium in conjunction with the faculty at UTSA. The event was made possible by an Impact Project grant from SAI Philanthropies, Inc. The chair of USTA's department of music, along with three guest speakers, gave presentations on their firsthand experiences witnessing and facilitating the healing powers of music in their respective fields. The Theta Gamma chapter has worked with Hearts Need Art: Creative Support for Adults with Cancer for many years. They volunteer their time at the organization bringing music to cancer patients. This year the CEO of Hearts Need Art was a presenter at their symposium. They had Monty Draney, the activities director with Morningside Ministries, the facility where Theta Gamma sings, share the patient experiences with Hearts Need Art. They also had Dr. Carol White from the UT Health Science Center San Antonio as the keynote speaker. The goal of their symposium was to raise awareness and support for music and its power to positively impact health. They also wanted to make the public aware of the many music-related volunteer opportunities in the San Antonio area and hoped they would go home ignited with passion for the healing power of music in their own lives. They did an amazing job putting this on for the San Antonio community and were able to donate $200 to each of the guest speakers' organizations.
