Winter 2021 32 32 P A N P I P E S OPPORTUNITIES SAI PITTSBURGH ALUMNAE MARGARET BLACKBURN 2021 BIENNIAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION A $1,000 grand prize will be awarded to the female student composer who submits the winning musical composition in the 2021 Biennial Blackburn Memorial Composition Competition. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university or graduate music program for the 2020-21 academic year. Compositions should be for a small ensemble of no less than two instruments, which may include voice, and no more than twelve instruments including voice. Works for instruments and electronic sounds, digital media, CD, interactive compositions or works for electronic sounds alone can be included. No published scores will be accepted. An entry fee of $25 (U.S.) is required. Membership in Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) is not required. Deadline: April 16, 2021 Contact: saipittsburghalumnae@gmail.com KEYNOTES: THE JEROME MIRZA VIRTUAL JAZZ RESIDENCY Now in its 8th year, The Jerome Mirza Jazz Residency at Knox College will move from an in-person residency model to a virtual series featuring seven of the world's leading jazz artists aimed at serving both Knox College students and the broader communities of students and audience members. Each KeyNote presentation will be broadcast at 3pm CST on the Knox College YouTube channel followed by a live question and answer session with the artist. The KeyNotes series is designed to feature a diverse group of innovative jazz artists and educators, each of whom has designed an original virtual masterclass examining the big questions, emerging issues, and critical aesthetic ideas in jazz and creative music. When the badge of a deceased member is returned to National Headquarters, it is placed in the Memorial Collection and held in trust for a descendant. No badges should be passed down to other chapter members.
