P A N P I P E S Winter 2021 3 MUSIC NOTES SAI Claire Purcell's Spring 2019 PAN PIPES article, "Reflections on Teaching & the Transformative Power of Music," won 1st place in the 2020 Persuasive Writing category from the Fraternity Communi- cations Association. In the piece, Claire shared a personal teaching story about a student's journey from reluctant class attendee to enthusiastic choir partici- pant, aided by the support of peers and the director. A plaque (pictured) will be displayed at SAI National Headquarters. Claire is an initiate of the Gamma Pi Chapter at California State University, Longbeach and a member of the Orange County Alumnae Chapter. PAN PIPES Article Wins FCA Award T his year has brought many firsts to the Fraternity, including the first virtual installation of a new collegiate chapter. On Tuesday, December 8th, the Mu Psi Chapter was installed at the University of North Carolina/Charlotte. Jennifer Mistretta, NVP Extension, presided over the event and was assisted by all of the members of the National Executive Board, plus Mary Thomas, Region 6 Regional Officer, and Tau B Province Officer Becky Flaherty. Both chapter advisors, who are initiated members of SAI, were also in attendance. Nineteen new members were initi- ated and participated in the installation of the chapter. We congratulate all of the members of Mu Psi chapter, who, even during a pandemic, never wavered in their desire to establish an SAI chapter on their campus. Mu Psi was installed on Dec. 8, 2020.
