Spring 2021 24 24 P A N P I P E S DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS Summer Music Camp High School Choir. Dr. Waters was voted College/University Teacher of the Year for KMEA District 11 in 2012 and 2016, and received Distinguished Educational Leadership Awards from the EKU Student Government Association in 2016 and 2017. From 2003-2011, he was Director of Choral Activities at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, where he received the 2008 DSU Foundation Prize for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Waters maintains an active schedule as a composer, clinician, and adjudicator. His compositions are published by Colla Voce Music, Hinshaw Music, and Santa Barbara Music Publishing, and have been performed and featured in reading sessions at state, regional, and national conferences of ACDA. He has served ACDA as R&S Chair for College/ University Choirs and President-Elect of Mississippi ACDA, Poster Session Coordinator for three national conferences, and most recently as the Southern Division R&R Chair for College/ University Choirs. In addition to his university responsibilities, Dr. Waters is the Chancel Choir Director at First Christian Church in Richmond, Kentucky. From 2012-2016, he was Conductor of the Madison Singers, a community choir sponsored by the Richmond Area Arts Council. He has served as Artistic Director of e Mississippi Chorus, Assistant Conductor of the Choral Society of Greensboro, conductor of the UNCG Men's Glee Club, and taught high school and middle school choir in the Virginia public schools. While in Hartford, he sang in CONCORA (Connecticut Choral Artists), the region's first all-professional choir. Dr. Waters received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from James Madison University, a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the Hartt School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has studied conducting with William Carroll, Richard Coffey, David Watkins, Michael Yachanin, and Welborn Young, and has conducted in master classes led by Rodney Eichenberger and Dennis Keene. He holds memberships in the American Choral Directors Association, American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Chorus America, College Music Society, National Association for Music Education, National Collegiate Choral Organization, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Pi Kappa Lambda. Dr. Cory Alexander Dr. Cory Alexander was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Delta Gamma Chapter at the University of Florida (UF) in January. Dr. Alexander is the Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Florida, Assistant Director of the Gainesville Master Chorale, and Director of Music at First Congregational UCC in Ocala. At UF Dr. Alexander directs the Men's Glee Club and Women's Chorale, teaches choral and vocal courses, and teaches in the UF Quest and UF Honors Programs. He currently holds a leadership position in the Florida American Choral Directors Association as Repertoire and Resources Chair for College and University Choirs. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting with vocal performance cognate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal music education from Central College in Pella, IA. A recent finalist for the American Prize in choral conducting, Dr. Alexander was previously Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at e University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa and Artistic Director of the Allegro Chorale & Orchestra in Midland, TX. Dr. Alexander has conducted numerous high school, university, church, and community choral ensembles, and receives frequent invitations to appear as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator. He has prepared choirs for performances with orchestras in the U.S. and abroad, including the Central Florida, Greensboro (NC), and Midland-Odessa (TX) Symphony Orchestras, and served as Chorusmaster for the Greensboro Opera. Choirs under Dr. Alexander's direction have made several demonstration recordings for Hinshaw and Walton Music. Dr. Alexander has been active in choral and vocal music throughout his life and has sung under several notable conductors, including Robert Shaw. He continues to sing professionally as a baritone soloist and choir member and has appeared as a soloist with the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra, Central Florida Master Choir, UNCG Opera eatre, Bel Canto Company (Greensboro, NC), and Musica Sacra (Midland, TX). Adam Gumble Adam Gumble was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter at West Chester University in January. Mr. Gumble is the Director of Athletic Bands at West Chester University. He previously taught for 13 years in the public schools as the Director of Bands at Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pennsylvania and Associate Director of Bands at Quakertown Community High School. Ensembles under his direction have earned top ratings, awards, and critical acclaim at festivals, assessments, and honor performances. Adam is an active guest conductor, clinician, and presenter at professional development conferences across the northeastern United States. He has served as the Band Content Representative on the PMEA State Professional Development Council and has contributed original articles for PMEA Magazine. Mr. Gumble has been a quarterfinalist for the GRAMMY Foundation's Music Educator Award and has been nominated for "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" as well as multiple "Teacher Impact Awards" through Central Pennsylvania's NBC affiliate, WGAL. Mr. Gumble currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Gumble graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 2005, Master of Music Education Degree from Boston University in 2007, and Master of Music Degree in Wind Conducting from West Chester University in 2016. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
