A Word
from the
National President
A
Dear Members of Sigma Alpha Iota,
s we bring the 2012-2013 fraternity year to a close, I am happy to
report that this post-convention year continued the excitement
from our convention through the successful recruitment and
initiation of new collegiate members, the affiliations of sisters
by our alumnae chapters, and the recognition of Distinguished
Members who have dedicated their lives to furthering the cause of music.
Many of our members have faced natural and man-made disasters across the
country this year, but we as sisters and friends have supported our loved ones,
neighbors and communities in those times of need by giving of ourselves. Sadly,
we have also lost a musical giant with the passing of Van Cliburn, but we can take
comfort knowing that his efforts will continue on through the dedicated work of
others, including our own Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter.
Throughout our struggles, Sigma Alpha Iota has brought comfort and
reassurance to others as well as ourselves through the "Healing Power of Music" The

variety of music events and service projects completed by our 300+ chapters this

year is heartwarming and inspiring. Several of these events are highlighted in this
edition of Pan Pipes, as well as in our Tempo! national newsletter. Be sure to keep
current with your National Alumnae Association dues so that you do not miss a
single moment of excitement!
I hope that each of you will take the time to celebrate our Founders' Day on
June 12th. Without our Founders' forethought, Sigma Alpha Iota would not be the
powerful and important element in our lives that it is today.
Continue to keep music as part of your everyday life. I hope you all have a
restful and enjoyable summer.
With SAI love,
Leslie Odom Miller
