distinguished members HONORaRY MEMBER a woman who has achieved international distinction in the music profession who is not an initiated member of Sigma Alpha Iota. Professor Mimmi Katherine Fulmer Professor Mimmi Katherine Fulmer was initiated as an Honorary Member by the Rho Chapter in April. Fulmer is Professor of Voice and Opera at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where her work has been distinguished with both the Vilas Associate and Chancellor's Awards. Her students are enjoying success around the world with companies including New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Mainz Oper, Los Angeles Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Washington National Opera, El Paso Opera, Opera Tampa, and Opera Australia. Her students have held fellowships at Tanglewood and Merola, starred on Broadway, sung on cruise ships, and are pursuing careers as educators at the school and university levels. Ms. Fulmer has presented numerous master classes, including at Ball State University, University of California-Riverside, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and with the Currents Ensemble to rural Virginia schools. A soprano, she performs repertoire ranging from early music to premieres of works written for her. She was praised by The Washington Post for her "really beautiful soprano" and by Gramophone for her "warm and natural interpretations". Her CD, American Vistas, with flutist Leone Buyse was called "superb" by American Record Guide, and NATS Journal notes "her technique enables her to sing even the most intricate of these songs with assured ease." She was named to the Fulbright Specialist Roster beginning in 2012. This program matches specialists with academic institutions around the world, and she is honored to have her expertise in American music recognized by the Fulbright program. Fulmer recently presented a recital and master class at the University of Tampa, and lecture-recitals of Nordic songs at Pacific Lutheran University, North Dakota State University, and UW-Parkside. She was a featured soloist at FinnFest in Tucson in 2012. She is editing an anthology of Nordic songs to be published by Subito Music. Her CD of Nordic songs, Voyage Home: Songs of Finland, Sweden and Norway, was released in March. She is the recipient of grants from the American-Scandinavian Foundation, Swedish Women's Educational Association, and the Finlandia Foundation to pursue work in Nordic art songs, and traveled to Helsinki and Stockholm in 2009 and 2011 for research. She presented lecture-recitals on Nordic songs at the National College Music Society Conference in Portland, at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle, and on the UW-Madison Live broadcast on WERN radio. Noted for her performances of new music, she has premiered dozens of works written for her, including nine roles in eight operas. Her solo CD, About Time, was called "a gratifying testimony to …composers in America" by Opera News online and "a spectacular show" by American Record Guide. She premiered a onewoman multi-media opera written for her at the University of Michigan and is featured on CDs of music by David Dies, Joseph Dubiel, Edward Cone, and Hans Strum. She was guest artist at an international conference at Princeton University on Edward Cone's "Musical Form and Musical Performance." Fulmer has been a featured soloist at festivals around the nation, including Aspen and "Bang on a Can," and in concerts at the Kennedy Center, CAMI Hall, and the Walker Art Center, as well as at the Bath Fringe Festival and in Kyoto, Japan. Her opera roles include Cherubino, Galatea, Poppea, The Woman in Erwartung, and Schubert's Helena. Her recital and oratorio work have taken her to San Diego, Richmond, New Jersey, Chicago, Costa Rica, Miami, Pittsburgh, South Hadley, and Muncie. Early music has been a significant part of her career, and she performs regularly with the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble. NATIONAL ARTS ASSOCIATE a man or woman who is nationally recognized for distinguished contribution to the arts Dr. Daniel Moore Dr. Daniel Moore was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Zeta Epsilon Chapter in December. Since 1997, Dr. Moore has served as Percussion Area Head and Professor of Music for the University of Iowa. He has helped countless undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students graduate with honors. During his time at the university, he has developed a number of courses in percussion and music therapy. Dr. Moore is a Yamaha national performing artist, a signature mallet artist for Innovative Percussion, an educational board member for the Latin Percussion Music Group (LP), an artist for Sabian cymbals and Grover tambourines and triangles, and a member of the Zendrum 21st Century Techno-Tribe. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Percussive Arts Society International Organization for Percussionists. He has created, edited, mastered, and produyced a multiple of albums including Cabinet of Curiosities: The Graphic Percussion Scores of Robert Moran (2009) and Everywhere Calypso (2002) by the PanAmerican Steel Band. He has appeared as the Headline Artists at the Decimo Festival Internacional de Percussion and Segundo Festival Internacional de Marimba in Argentina and Chile's Encuentro Internacional de Percussion. He has also appeared in China, Malta, and Mexico. In 2011, Dr. Moore released a line of percussive mallets distributed internationally through Innovative Percussion. A native Texan, Dr. Moore is a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M University – Commerce. He earned his Master's of Music Education from Wichita State University, and his Doctorate of Musical Arts from The University of Kentucky.
