Alumnae Association Continues Growth Editor's Notes I Dear Readers, just love the way the snow glistens in the early morning light this time of year. Winter is a great time to start planning for the upcoming spring concerts, which are only a few months away. I strongly encourage you to consider performing some of the newly composed music by members of our SAI Composers Bureau, which you will find listed within the Composers Update. Spring is my favorite time of year. The birds are singing, the flowers are blooming, and the weather is just perfect. It's also one of my favorite musical times of year – concert season! I hope you are all enjoying the fantastic spring concerts that are being performed around the country. If you're still looking for inspiration, we have included an addendum to our Composers Update, and you should consider adding newly composed pieces from members of the SAI Composers Bureau. For a complete list of our SAI Composers Bureau members, please visit the SAI National website at http://www.sai-national.org. Teri Duerr has written a wonderful article entitled, "Big Voices in the Big Apple." In this article, she discusses the resurgence of choral music, and how SAI Patroness Jenny Clarke has been sharing these works with audiences for 19 years as founder and executive director of New York City's premier women's choir, Melodia. Dr. Liana Valente has provided us with an extensive update about what the People-to-People project has been up to this year. It is truly inspiring to see how donations made by individuals and chapters have helped aspiring musicians around the world achieve their musical dreams. "ClarinetFest: An Exciting Opportunity Made Possible by SAI" is an article written by Chastine Hofmeister about the opportunity provided to her by the Professional Development Grant she received from SAI Philanthropies, Inc. The grant gave her the opportunity to premiere a new piece at the International Clarinet Association's national conference, attend master classes, and try out some new clarinet equipment featured in the exhibition hall. PAN PIPES needs your help! We are looking for submissions for future issues, and we'd love to feature one of your articles. Do you know someone who has made a significant contribution to SAI Philanthropies, Inc.? Tell us about it! Have you written a new opera or performance piece that is being premiered this year? We'd love to hear about it! Are you performing in a national tour of a musical or stage show? PAN PIPES would love to have the inside scoop about your personal experiences. We are seeking articles regarding music education, philanthropy, composition, opera, musical theater … the list of musical topics is extensive. PAN PIPES wants to share your stories on a national level, in the hopes of furthering education about music and inspiring musicians to perform and create new music for years to come. We are dedicated to raising awareness of the projects supported by SAI Philanthropies, Inc., and increasing participation in those projects on a national level. There is a list of submission deadlines and guidelines on our SAI National website at http:// www.sai-national.org. I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon! Thank you for your support.
