Dr. Arthur Henriquez Dr. Arthur Henriquez was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter in May. Dr. Henriquez was born into a musical family in Key West, Florida. e family boasts seven generations of musicians, going back to Spain and performing for the King. e family immigrated to the US from Cuba in the early 1950's. He has spent a long career as a performer, teacher, arranger, and church musician. He served in the Air Force as a member of the Air Force Band, where he played principal clarinet and arranged jazz charts for the musicians in the band. Aer the Air Force, Dr. Henriquez attended Glendale (AZ) Community College for a year, then finished his undergraduate work at Arizona State University, receiving his Bachelors degree in Music. He later played bass clarinet with the Phoenix Symphony under Eduardo Mata, played many shows with Phoenix Little eater (including Fiddler on the Roof), as well as playing with several big bands in the Phoenix area. His additional degrees include a D.M.A. from Arizona State University and a M.M. from Oral Roberts University. Dr. Henriquez also served as a school and private teacher, and has been a performer for shows, operas, and well-known recording artists such as Johnny Mathis and Wayne Newton. While playing with the Baton Rouge Symphony and the Acadiana Symphony he created a one -man show and became Mr. Music. As this persona he worked with the Baton Rouge Arts Council and the Junior League to go into the schools with a presentation of music including opera, blues, jazz and classical. e children loved Mr. Music. His career as a church musician is just as important to him having worked in music ministry and worship leading for over thirty-five years , both instrumentally and vocally. His degrees come from Arizona State University, B.A and D.M.A., and Oral Roberts University M.M. Michael Wiseman Michael Wiseman was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Lambda Phi Chapter at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Amherst in April. Mr. Wiseman has been the Lambda Phi chapter's Social and Program Advisor for two years. He recently retired from his position as the Associate Director of Student Engagement and Leadership at UMass. He received a B.A. in English, with minors in music and Latin, from Indiana State University and a M.S. in College Student Personnel Services from Miami University. Previous positions included Assistant Dean for Students at Hanover College in Hanover, IN, programming and student housing coordinator at the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, CO, and Director of the Office of Fraternities and Sororities at UMass. He is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, the Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors. and NASPA. Mr. Wiseman sings in the Springfield Symphony Chorus and the First Church of Longmeadow Choir. Now that he is retired, he is hoping to become more involved in Sigma Alpha Iota and to revisit his trombone.
