12 Winter 2022 • sai-national.org SAI Philanries, Inc. 1916 SAI Detroit Convention - Mrs. Mary Christie of Delta Chapter suggests raising funds for a studio at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH. 1918 Marian MacDowell asks SAI to fund a coage instead of a studio for all season housing; additional funds are raised and construction begins. 1919 The 3-story white Sigma Alpha Iota Coage is ready for occupancy. A three-level building with central staircase, six bedrooms, and full kitchen and dining area is equipped with heat and electricity for year-round use. 1924 Mrs. MacDowell requests a one word name for the coage; contest is held and "Pan's Coage" is chosen. 1925 A more elaborate porch, small roof balustrade, and two dormer windows are added to allow for additional bedrooms on the top floor. 1943 SAI Endowment Fund of $7,500 is presented to the MacDowell Association for the upkeep of Pan's Coage 1968 50th Anniversary of Pan's Coage 2007 SAI presents gi of $75,000 to the MacDowell Colony to restore and preserve Edward MacDowell's music room at Hillcrest. 2016 Approaching 100 Year Anniversary of Pan's Coage; SAI Philanthropies, Inc. begins funding campaign 2018 SAI Philanthropies, Inc. announces a total of $104,000 raised, surpassing its goal.
