MELODIA WOMEN'S CHOIR OF NYC ANNOUNCES
THE 2022 WOMEN CHORAL COMPOSERS COMPETITION
Melodia is accepting applications for the 2022 Women Choral
Composers Competition. The winning composer will be awarded
a commission to create a new work for the choir, which will be
performed in New York during Melodia's 20
th
Season, in spring
2023. The new work will be Melodia's 10th commission. Previous
commissioned composers include Hilary Purrington, Errollyn
Wallen, Sally Lamb McCune, and Christina Whitten Thomas – see

All eligible applications will be reviewed by a panel of
composers/musicians. The panel will select one composer who
will receive a $3,000 commission fee to compose a work for the
choir and up to five instruments (including piano), 7 to 10 minutes
in length. Composers who have received prior commissions from
Melodia are not eligible.

women brass musicians. For over 20 years, IWBC has successfully

2022-2023 ASSOCIATION OF CONCERT BANDS YOUNG
COMPOSERS COMPOSITION CONTEST IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
THE JOHN PHILIP SOUSA FOUNDATION
• Eligibility: Composers under 30 years of age on June 15, 2022
• A 3 - 5 minute duration piece of original composition for concert
band at a grade level of roughly grade 4.
• Premiere: The piece will be premiered at the annual convention
of the Association of Concert Bands
• The composer will receive an award of $2,000 and
reimbursement up to $1,000 for travel expenses to attend the ACB
Convention for the premiere if available to attend.
Deadline: June 15, 2022
