sai-national.org • Winter 2022 5 W ith funding through a Summer Music Scholarship from Sigma Iota Philanthropies, Inc., SAI Emma Leigh Webster was able to attend the Chicago Summer Opera, where she performed the role of Flavia in a live production of Silla by Händel, as well as Soeur Constance from Dialogues des Carmélites in the opera scenes program. In addition, she had the opportunity to sing on a master class with Garnett Bruce and worked with other renowned and established voice teachers and coaches. This program granted her the opportunity to work with musicians from around the world. Over the span of four weeks, they brought Silla to life by exploring new musical and staging ideas. The production was performed in front of a live audience and broadcast over their Facebook channel. "There was no greater feeling than being able to reconnect with the musical community after a year away. Through this production, the energy of a live performance was brought back to this Chicago neighborhood. Attending Chicago Summer Opera would not have been possible without the support of your scholarship. Thank you again for your support and your generosity." — Submitted by Emma Leigh Webster Learn more about Emma's work at: emmaleighwebster.com A Summer of Singing The 2022 Annual American Composers Update, featuring details about SAI Composers Bureau members' new publications and premieres, is available for download at: www.sai-national.org/resources/composers-bureau.html Music Notes
