In just a few short months, we will be gathering in Greensboro, NC for our 50 th National Convention. The musical performers and workshop topics promise to be amazing! Be sure to watch the fraternity's website, along with emails and social media postings, for the latest announcements regarding registration and more. Don't miss out on that early bird rate, which ends on May 31, 2022. I suggest you find a comfortable spot to read this edition of PAN PIPES; once you start, you won't want to put it down until you've turned to the last page. We are all introduced to Pan's Cottage at MacDowell as part of our Member-in-Training studies. At our 2018 National Convention, we successfully raised over $100,000 for the cottage, which went towards its much needed renovations. Those renovations are now complete, as evidenced by the beautiful pictures found on the front and back covers of this edition! What an amazing achievement for SAI and our members in committing to that goal and successfully accomplishing it in record time. As you read through this issue, you will find various articles which highlight events at our Convention. The schedule on Friday includes our Welcome Luncheon, where we will listen to the UMKC Community Accordion Ensemble. Our 2022 International American Music Awards (IAMA) Composition Competition Concert will take place that evening, with the world premieres of both the winning composition as well as works written specifically for this concert by our composer- judges. This issue also pays tribute to several fraternity leaders who recently passed away. We were so very lucky to have Dixie Lou Morris serve SAI as the NVP Extension from 1978-1987. Meliné Markarian was a prime example of giving back to the fraternity she loved, by serving on the SAI Philanthropies, Inc. Board. What amazing ladies Dixie Lou and Meliné were, supporting SAI for their entire lifetime. They will be sorely missed. My wish for everyone is that 2022 will be a prosperous and uplifting year! We not only survived a world-wide pandemic, but we overcame it through determination, dedication, and sheer willpower. As we start to come back to being together in person, I ask that you revisit the pledge you took upon your initiation into our beloved fraternity and continue your commitment to SAI now and for the remainder of your life.
