MY
decision to visit ABBA e Museum was last
minute, so I had not purchased a ticket online
in advance. e route from Royal Opera House
was mostly along a waterway and not very
complicated. e May 2022 weather was perfect: a light breeze, sunny, mid-
60's. Stockholm is located on fourteen islands; aer crossing the bridge to
Djurgården, I found a sign pointing to ABBA e Museum.
Arriving at my destination with a limited amount of time to spend and
seeing a huge crowd, I momentarily panicked. But while everyone else was
waiting to enter, I went inside and discovered the box office would open in
four minutes. Incredibly, not only was I first in line to buy a ticket for 250 Swedish krona (less
than $26.00 — though price varies depending on the season and day) but also the first to scan
the barcode and enter the exhibit rooms downstairs. Soon to follow were hordes of teenagers
with pre-purchased admission.
I admit that beforehand I knew very little about this famous Swedish pop group formed
three decades ago. So I had opted to pay an additional 20 Swedish krona (around $2.00) for
an audioguide. Pointing this "bargain" device at select displays and then holding it to my ear,
I heard explanatory recordings, including those by ABBA stars themselves who shared details
about the group as well as their personal lives.
