What do you do with all those buttons? Some years after theory class I recognized that the circle of fifths and the button arrangement are the same; some years later it occurred to me that the bass button chart might be useful as a "crib sheet" for people in theory, harmony, or composition classes. Attendees will enjoy a hands-on experience on multiple accordions while learning about similarities to other instruments, the folk nature of accordions, the button arrangement, and playing musical examples. MORE WORKSHOPS AT CONVENTION! Convention is a time for learning, and a number of educational workshop sessions on music and Fraternity topics are planned. Who Wants To Win An Who Wants To Win An M ary Ann Covone is a classical accordionist hailing from the suburbs of Chicago and is a current member of the Oak Park SAI Alumnae Chapter. She currently serves as the President of the Accordionists & Teachers Guild International (ATG), an 80-year- old organization dedicated to promoting excellence in accordion education and performance. In 2019, Mary Ann founded e Chicagoland Accordion Academy where she directs an accordion ensemble of 18 members and teaches about 30 students per week. Her recent performance engagements have included being featured by the West Suburban Symphony in Shostakovich's Suite for Variety Orchestra and playing with the Beverley eater Group in Cabaret along with several solo performances in the Chicago area, including as a soloist for the Wheaton College Artist Series as part of the ATG's 80 th anniversary celebration this month. Mary Ann's love for accordion began at the age of 10. She asked her parents if she could study the piano, but instead, since her family did not own a piano, her uncle brought over an accordion saying, "try this instead." Mary Ann immediately fell in love with playing the little blue accordion gied by her uncle. is love ultimately brought her to e University of Missouri- Kansas City Conservatory of Music where she studied with Joan Cochran Sommers and graduated with a B.M. in Accordion Performance. Before attending e John Marshall Law School and embarking on a 30 year legal career, Mary Ann taught and performed extensively in the Chicago area, including a highlight performance at e National SAI Convention in 1984. She is thrilled to bring her focus back to performing and furthering the accordion. Welcome Luncheon Performer
