In
the Spring
of 2022, the
National
Federation
of State High School
Associations (NFHS),
the College Band
Directors National
Association (CBDNA), and
the International Aerosol
Study Coalition embarked
on a collaborative study
with the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC)
to determine the effect of
recommended COVID-19
prevention strategies in the
performing arts classrooms
during the Fall 2021 Semester.
Sigma Alpha Iota was one of
the arts organizations that
supported this study.
The NFHS distributed
an electronic survey to staff
who direct bands, choirs,
general music, and orchestra
programs, in the K-12 school
and collegiate settings.
The objective of the survey
was to collect information
on which mitigations were
implemented in music
programs from August
1-December 15, 2021. Surveys
were sent to a national
sample, and 4,808 staff
responded.
