FALL 2022 41 S i g m a A l p h a I o t a Annual Philanthropies Awards O UTRE AC H G R A NTS M USI C ED U C ATI O N O UTRE AC H G R A NTS TAMPA L a m b d a D , R e g i o n V I e Tampa Alumnae Chapter was awarded $400 to support the beginning band program at Blake Academy in Lakeland, FL. ey collaborated with the Beta Sigma and Delta Chi chapters to provide reeds and brass mouthpieces, as well as Nuvo flutes and jSaxes to this Title I school. ese items will be used by 4th and 5th graders to completely rebuild the program that had been defunct until the 2021 school year. e state of the school's instrument inventory had gotten so dire that students were sharing instruments and therefore unable to take them home to practice. By funding this project, the Blake Academy is able to offer more students the beginning band experience they deserve. EVANSVILLE G a m m a A , R e g i o n V In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Evansville Alumnae Chapter, sisters decided to make a contribution toward the renovation of the Wheeler Concert Hall at the University of Evansville. ey were awarded $500 to match funds raised by the chapter in order to purchase a television monitor for the concert hall lobby/art gallery. e renovation of the Wheeler Concert Hall happened due to water damage, and it supports a reorganization of the school of music into the Music Conservatory at the University of Evansville. STEPHANIE JONES A c k e r m a n S c h o o l The Ackerman School is part of the Special School District of St. Louis County that serves approximately 166 students in grades K-8 with a range of significant intellectual, developmental, and behavioral disabilities. The Winter Show is an annual performance held just before winter break, and funds will be used for music, an accompanist, a reception, equipment, costumes, and decorations for all class participants.
