sai-national.org • Winter 2023 31 SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS CONFERENCE COMPOSITION The Society of Composers, Inc. is pleased to announce a call for works for its 2023 Online National Conference, hosted by Beth Wiemann and the SCI Executive Committee. This conference will take place virtually during the weekend of June 2 through 4, 2023. We recognize the need for a national, peer-reviewed conference for our members, and despite the challenges that this COVID-19 world presents, we are excited to come together virtually to share music, knowledge, and ideas. Composers may submit up to two (2) works in a number of concert categories. Works that are no more than 12 minutes in duration will have the best chance of being programmed. As of May 1 we are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10-4, with our last tour beginning about 2:30. WEBSITE: https://www.sai-national.org/philanthropies/ scholarships-grants-awards.html Otunities THE MARGARET BLACKBURN COMPOSITION COMPETITION The Margaret Blackburn Composition Competition began in 1997. Margaret Blackburn was a founding member of the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter in 1935. When she passed away in 1996, she bequeathed $10,000 to SAI, to be used for a composition competition scholarship. A $1000 grand prize will be awarded to the female student composer who submits the winning musical composition in the 2023 Biennial Blackburn Memorial Composition Competition. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university or graduate music program for the 2022-23 academic year. Compositions should be for a small ensemble of no less than two instruments, which may include voice and no more than twelve instruments including voice. Works for instruments and electronic sounds, digital media, CD, interactive compositions or works for electronic sounds alone can be included. No published scores will be accepted. By submitting an application you acknowledge that your piece may be performed in full at a Sigma Alpha Iota event.
