W hile performing around the world, acclaimed soprano and SAI Honorary Member Angela Brown became acutely aware of the lack of multicultural representation in classical music – on the stage, in the audience, and behind the scenes. She has graced the leading opera and symphonic stages on six continents including Lincoln Center, e Kennedy Center, National Opera of Paris, Vienna State Opera, Capetown (South Africa) Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Edmonton Opera, Calgary Philharmonic, Shanghai World Expo, Moscow Performing Arts Center, e Metropolitan Opera, Bilbao Opera, Teatro La Fenice, Hamburg Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Cincinnati Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and more. She has performed in recital throughout the United States, Canada, Spain, New Zealand, China, and Africa. Yet, everywhere she has sung, she has seen very few people who look like her. is compelled her to create a program to demystify opera for audiences that might normally shy away from what they unknowingly stereotype as elitist. e result was Opera...from a Sistah's Point of View ©1997, a solo show that unabashedly demonstrates the broad diversity portrayed in opera and blows up preconceived expectations of the art form to make sure everyone feels they belong in the audience. It caught on immediately and was featured on CNN. She began offering the show as an added outreach program whenever she performs with opera companies and symphonies. She did not stop there.
