4 Spring 2023 • sai-national.org The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, located in Cleveland, OH, has a specific musical mission: "Born from the collision of rhythm & blues, country, and gospel, rock & roll is a spirit that is inclusive and ever-changing. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates the sound of youth culture and honors the artists whose music connects us all" (https://www.rockhall. com/). The Hall honored Women's History Month in March with a plethora of events and programs celebrating the achievements of a number of music's most notable female artists. The #WomenWhoRock series featured the work of many, including the female nominees on the 2023 ballot for induction into the Hall of Fame: Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Cyndi Lauper, Gillian Gilbert of New Order, Meg White of The White Stripes, and SAI Alumna Sheryl Crow. On March 23rd the Hall's new "Soak Up the Sun: The Music of Sheryl Crow Exhibit" officially opened. Crow, an initiate of Iota Lambda Chapter at the University of Missouri/Columbia, is a singer, songwriter, and actress whose music incorporates elements of rock, pop, country, folk, and blues. She has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and been the recipient of nine Grammy awards. A few of her most popular songs include All I Wanna Do (1994), Everyday Is a Winding Road (1996), and Soak Up the Sun (2002). The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's exhibit highlights iconic moments throughout her career and features a number of artifacts from her concerts and songwriting sessions. These include the handwritten lyrics to her song Leaving Las Vegas and the leather jacket she wore in the All I Wanna Do music video. "I am thrilled and honored to have a featured exhibit at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame," said Crow. "Thank you to the Rock Hall team for curating and thanks to all my fans for all the support and love throughout the years." (Hall of Fame press release) Kansas Music Educators Association The Wichita Alumnae Chapter paid for and maintained a booth at the Kansas Music Educators Association's (KMEA) Convention and In-Service Workshops on February 23-25, 2023. We had six sisters assist in the set up and take down, and they were available to talk to visitors during the convention. The Lindsborg and Lawrence Alumnae Chapters provided some financial assistance for the booth cost. The Chapter provided a bag of goodies for the KMEA drawing that included an SAI notepad, SAI pencil, SAI sticker, and SAI pen, as well as a Wichita Alumnae Chapter business card. During the convention 23 alumnae updated their addresses, 46 pins were added to our map board, many of the brochures and window clings were given out, and a container and a half of Dove Chocolate Truffles were appreciated. The chapter also sold a few music related items, including two scrunchies and five Topeka Alumnae Chapter Cookbooks. Our ideas for future booths at KMEA and other conventions include being prepared with a list of both active Collegiate and Alumnae chapters, not just in Kansas but for all border states, with contact information; many high school students and collegiate students were asking about chapters at potential schools. We would also like to have a cheat sheet handy on how we are similar and different to the Social Greek organizations (such as lower cost to join, we don't have residential housing, etc.). I feel the best part was helping alumnae fill out the address update sheet for the National Database. Several ladies were happy to have that taken off their to-do list. I was also able to let them know the RoboCalls and multiple emails from National Headquarters regarding the 120th year Digital Directory were legitimate, with audio recordings of people's time at both the collegiate and alumnae level. We did have one high schooler ask about Collegiate chapters in other countries. She is from Brazil and wanted to know if there was a school there that might have a chapter despite her thinking about going into the field of law. Going forward, that might be nice to have information and discussions on, since most of Kansas' colleges do have many students from other countries. — Submitted by Jerri C.
