sai-national.org • Winter 2024 5 Pele-To-Pele P eople-to-People is underway with our new Sigma Alpha Iota Teachers Title I schools program. Title I is a program of the U.S. public schools composed of low-income students. While Title I schools do receive special funding, the music classroom has limited access to these resources. is program will not only support the children of low-income communities, but it will also support our fellow Sigma Alpha Iota members who work with these students and communities. We have received many inquiries about the project and are thrilled with the reach we have received so far. We are continuing to set up files with teachers as they submit to the project and to showcase the needs these students and our fellow fraternity members need. We have two elementary teachers highlighted here. P2P and Title I Amanda Bise – Elementary Music Amanda Bise – Elementary Music Amanda shared with People-to-People that she shares her classroom with the library and art class. Both subjects contain many materials; therefore, storage is one of her main concerns. She only has two cabinets in her room dedicated to music materials. Amanda also does not have a classroom set of any standard materials for her music students. She has a few instruments, such as dulcimers and ukeleles, but most are quite old. Below are specifics that would support Amanda's students: • Boom Whacker Sets • Ukeleles • Dulcimer Strings and Books • Visuals, Posters, and Small Dry Erase Boards • Portable or Wall Storage Christine Connor – Elementary Music Christine Connor – Elementary Music Christine's needs are very similar to Amanda's. More ukuleles and boom whacker sets would be great editions to help improve her classroom. Christine has had great success with Spectrum Mats. She has also received xylophones but is in need of carts. Christine shares her space with other music teachers, and she said that they have lost their funding to provide aer-school meals for students on concert days. Previously, this program helped students who could not go home to eat and get back in time for performances. Below are music specifics for Christine's classroom: • Boom Whackers Sets • Ukuleles • Xylophone Carts • Spectrum Mat with Bluetooth Ring People-to-People will be sending donations to teachers as on-hand items apply, as well as searching for donations to purchase specific items needed. If you are interested in donating to this project, please fill out our SAI Title I Donation form that is provided in our Linktree! We will be highlighting more Sigma Alpha Iota Title I teachers in the next issue of Bold Notes, the SAI Philanthropies, Inc. Newsletter, as well. In addition to highlighting two of our SAI Title I teachers, People-to-People also reached out to Jatona Chester for input on this project and for knowledge on being a Title I music teacher. Jatona is a 2022 recipient of the Music Education Outreach Grant and has fieen years of experience working in Title I schools. Jatona's information will also be available in our new Google Slides Presentation for this project, now available in the People-to-People Linktree: https://linktr.ee/saiphilpeopletopeople
