4 Spring 2024 • sai-national.org KENTUCKY On February 8th and 9th, the Louisville Alumnae Chapter once again hosted an exhibition booth at the Kentucky Music Educator Association (KMEA) Professional Development conference. is year, we were happy to see growth and success of our booth and the conference. As we usually do, we set up our booth, located this year within view of the main entrance of the exhibition hall, using our own ΣAI flag and the one provided by SAI National Headquarters. Collegiate, alumnae, and distinguished members were invited to stop by to receive a sticker for their conference badge, add a sticker to our map of Kentucky chapters, compete in trivia giveaways, fill out our "I Love ΣAI because" board, sign up for communication from our chapter, gather information from National Headquarters, and purchase decals from the chapter. is year, however, we had several important additions to the booth and the conference: a planned sister meet up, a schedule of events, and a fun photo challenge. Several members were able to join us for pizza on Friday evening of the conference, and collegiate members in particular got a kick out of "Rosebud the Unicorn." is printout of a unicorn acted as a kind of "Flat Stanley" for sisters who participated in the challenge. Sisters were encouraged to post their photos online using #SAIatKMEA. Check out Instagram - Delta Omega looks like they had fun! is year, not only did we speak to sisters from across the state, we also had the opportunity to talk about SAI with prospective members from Murray State (Iota Beta) and Western Kentucky University (Mu Iota) and even representatives from the University of Pikeville, who are interested in bringing music fraternities to their new music department. When putting together our schedule of events, we found that we had several sisters and distinguished members participating as clinicians and ensemble directors: • Dr. Shayna Stahl, Delta Omega Advisor • Rebecca Sepulveda, NVP Ritual • Willow Cooper • Dr. Jill Campbell, Former Eta Sigma Advisor • Dr. Jennifer Adam and Dr. Mathew Herman, Mu Iota Advisor • Dr. Michele Paise, Gamma Upsilon Advisor • Dr. Martina Vasil, Former Delta Omega Advisor We are so excited that music educators, both students and professionals, get a chance to learn from so many sisters! It truly shows us how wide the reach of SAI is. We are looking forward to seeing how this conference and our organization continue to grow in the coming years. — Megan Gold, Vice President, Membership & Programs, Louisville Alumnae Music Notes At top, the SAI booth at the Kentucky Music At top, the SAI booth at the Kentucky Music Educator Association. SAI at State Music Conferences Each year the Fraternity accepts grant applications from SAI chapters for booths and displays at state music education conferences. e following are a few reports from chapters and members who participated in 2024. TEXAS e SAI Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention booth is gaining speed in becoming an annual project for many sisters in Texas (and in neighboring states; we see you Alabama and Louisiana!) to keep up and engage with. e TMEA booth has inspired a sense of inclusion for many sisters to chat, catch up, mingle, meet new people, and provide that camaraderie of sisterhood at a convention. ese <15-minute interactions reignite a spark in many sisters before they go to perform, learn at a workshop, or partake in administration duties for their school district. But not before grabbing an SAI sticker to place on their TMEA badge! is year we had many friends and family members of SAI stop by the booth and give praise to the Fraternity. We are proud to extend that hand to all wanting to celebrate music at a convention that does all things music. We spoke to many relatives and friends wanting to join aer their collegiate years. e San Antonio Alumnae Chapter has had patroness members join the sisterhood from SAIs' sisters. ere is nothing more beautiful than sharing the love for music with those you love. On the first night, TMEA Sing with SAI was held where all sisters gathered in a room and sang from the SAI Songbook. Friends and families watched from their seats as they witnessed the love of sisterhood fill the room with songs like Inspiration Boogey and SAI Garden. Thank you to all the sisters who put this event together. The San Antonio Alumnae Chapter can't wait to see you all again next year! — Crystal Zamarron, Editor, San Antonio Alumnae Chapter SAIs at the TMEA Sing SAIs at the TMEA Sing
