16 Spring 2024 • sai-national.org 16 Spring 2024 • sai-national.org By Isabella Lasseigne In the summer of 2023, several sisters embarked on an incredible journey. e Nicholls State University Chamber Choir and members of the ibodaux-based Omaggio Community Chorus traveled overseas to participate in a three-concert tour in Ireland. e university's choir included multiple members of the eta eta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota: Ashlyn Simmons, Bricelyn White, Rachel Wallace, Sarah Oubre, and Megan Chiasson. Simmons, White, and Wallace are currently active fraternity members, while Oubre and Chiasson graduated aer the Spring 2023 semester. During their ten-day trip, the group visited multiple notable cities in Ireland, including Limerick, Galway, and Dublin. ey performed at unique locations, such as the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas in Galway and the Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin. Outside of their concerts, the choir visited the picturesque Cliffs of Moher, the enchanting Kylemore Abbey, and the serene Glendalough Monastery. As part of traveling to the country, the sisters, who are all native Louisianans, were able to experience Irish culture first-hand. ey learned about Irish cultural customs and some of the struggles the country is facing. Ashlyn Simmons noted she was surprised to learn that many Ireland natives spoke only English. She gained some insight into the struggle the country is facing with their native language, Gaelic, and the measures that are being taken to keep it alive.
