The
American
Prize
National
Arts
Award recognizes artists who have
"sustained artistic excellence" over
the course of their careers. This year,
Rachel Barton Pine is one of two
recipients to receive the award on
July 4. The prize is presented by
the American Prize National
Nonprofit Competitions in the
Performing Arts.
Pine is a concert violinist who
has performed with the world's leading
orchestras, including the Philadelphia
Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, and the
Chicago, Vienna, and Detroit Symphony
Orchestras. She has recorded over forty
albums featuring both classical and
contemporary composers, and many of these
albums have topped the classical charts. Pine
writes her own cadenzas, and has released a
number of books on violin pedagogy. She is
the only living (and only female) violinist to be
featured in Carl Fischer's Masters Collection
series with The Rachel Barton Pine Collection,
which includes her most popular encores and
most of her cadenzas.
An active philanthropist, Pine has led the
Rachel Barton Pine (RBP) Foundation since
2001. The foundation expands awareness and
appreciation for classical music, especially
works by composers of African descent.
The RBP Foundation's Music by Black
Composers project has collected more than
nine hundred works by Black composers,
and curates free repertoire directories on its
website. The RBP Foundation also assists
young artists through its Instrument Loan
Program and Grants for Education and
Career.
Rachel Barton Pine is an Honorary
Member of SAI. She will be the featured
performer at the Philanthropies Benefit
Concert at the 2025 National Convention.
