sai-national.org • Fall 2024 39 A Wld of Music performance with Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach in Toronto's Massey Hall in 1953. Mark's collection also includes manufacturing brochures, catalogs (in file folders and in notebooks with plastic pockets), books, periodicals, and recordings. Civil War veteran G.C. Conn was a prominent citizen in his Hoosier community, first becoming the mayor in 1880. In 1888, he was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives and from 1893 to 1895, served in the United States House of Representatives. Other related Conn memorabilia on display includes the large family Bible with dates of birth, marriage, and death, as well as his Congressional autograph book. The mission of the museum is "to present an extraordinary collection of rare and historically significant saxophones and to preserve and study the history and current progress of the saxophone." By all accounts, it is exactly on target. For more information about the products and services at Saxquest as well as its unique museum upstairs, go to www.saxquest. com. Mark recommends his other website, saxophone.org, which is a virtual museum as well as a research site. Noteworthy is the 1924 film "Buescher Factory: The Fine Art of Musical Instrument Making, Saxophone Production." I learned a lot watching this historical and fascinating silent movie. Jayne I. Hanlin is an initiate of Alpha Omicron and current member of the St. Louis Alumnae chapter. Mrs. Hanlin, the sister of famed pianist Malcolm Frager, is the co- author of Learning Latin Through Mythology (Cambridge University Press, 1991).
