LINDSAY BRONNENKANT Dr. Lindsay Bronnenkant was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Lambda Phi Chapter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in May. Dr. Bronnenkant directs the University of Massachusetts Symphony Band in addition to teaching conducting classes and graduate conducting seminars. Prior to her appointment at UMass Amherst, Dr. Bronnenkant taught basic conducting at Nazareth College and led the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Community Wind Ensemble as she completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting degree at the Eastman School of Music. In her time at Eastman, she served as Assistant/ Associate Conductor of the Eastman Wind Ensembles, Assistant Conductor and Teaching Assistant for the University of Rochester Wind Symphony, and Teaching Assistant for basic conducting classes. She was a Frederick Fennell Conducting Fellow and a finalist for the Eastman School of Music Teaching Assistant Prize. Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Bronnenkant was the Director of Bands at the Aquinas Institute of Rochester, Director of the University of Rochester Pep Band, Director of the Newark High School Parade Band, and Interim Conductor of the Brighton Symphony Orchestra. Additonally, she has assistant directed the Eastman Community Music School Summer High School Wind Ensemble Workshop each summer since 2010. Dr. Bronnenkant has had the opportunity to conduct premier ensembles such as the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the University of Michigan Symphony Band, and the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own" at their 2017 Conductor Showcase Concert. A recipient of the American Prize Career Encouragement Certificate in wind conducting, she has also been invited to work with school, youth, and community ensembles on original and classic works. As a composer, Dr. Bronnenkant wrote her first work for wind ensemble, Symphony for Singer, self-taught at 18 years old. Her first published work, Tarot (2021), was designated the runner-up to the 2021 National Band Association/William D. Revelli Memorial Band Composition Contest. The piece is based on original research on Gustav Holst and was presented as part of Dr. Bronnenkant's doctoral conducting recital and lecture presentation. Dr. Bronnenkant holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (D.M.A. Wind Conducting, '22), the University of Michigan (M.M. Wind Conducting, '19), Nazareth College (B.M. Music Education, '14), and the University of Rochester (B.S. Brain and Cognitive Sciences, '10). Her conducting mentors include Mark Scatterday, Michael Haithcock, Jared Chase, and Nancy Strelau, and she has taken composition lessons with Keane Southard, Nancy Strelau, Christopher Winders, David Liptak, and Carlos Sanchez- Gutierrez. Dr. Bronnenkant is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi, and she is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. Additional professional affiliations include the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), the National Band Association (NBA), the College Music Society (CMS), and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). BRIAN BROWN Brian Brown was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Eta Rho Chapter at the University of Delaware in May. Mr. Brown is an adjunct professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of Delaware, Rowan University, The College of New Jersey, and a lecturer at Princeton University. Mr. Brown earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School. His major teachers include David Powers, Paul Krzywicki, Don Harry, Donald Harwood, Vincent Penzarella, and John Fletcher. Mr. Brown is currently principal tuba of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra (DSO), Orchestra Lumos, and The Philly Pops. He is a founding member of the Timberdale Brass Quintet. As an active freelance musician, Mr. Brown has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra, Orchestra 2001, and the Opera Company of Philadelphia, among others. Mr. Brown is the tuba player for NFL films and has recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestra 2001, and for the Vox and Tomato record labels. Various concerts have included performances with Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Jose Carreras, Mel Torme, Jack Jones, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, and the rock groups The Who and The Moody Blues. As a soloist, Mr. Brown has performed with the DSO, The College of New Jersey Wind Ensemble, the Rowan University Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra Lumos. Mr. Brown has conducted lectures and master classes throughout the United States, including The Eastman School of Music, The Curtis Institute, West Chester University, and the Odessa Ukraine Conservatory. DR. JASON MAX FERDINAND Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Gamma Epsilon Chapter at the University of Maryland in May. Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand serves as the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is the founding artistic director of The Jason Max Ferdinand Singers: An Ensemble of Exceptional Talents. Formerly, he served as the director of choral activities, chair of the music department, and NATIONAL ARTS ASSOCIATE a person who is nationally recognized for distinguished contribution to the arts
