sai-national.org • Winter 2025 29 Dr. Angela Munroe Dr. Angela Munroe was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Kappa Lambda Chapter at West Virginia University in October. Dr. Munroe is Assistant Professor of Music Education at West Virginia University, where she teaches General Music Methods, Introduction to Music Education, and Student Teaching Seminar. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Music and Elementary Education from Western Michigan University, a Master of Music Education at Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Colorado Boulder. During her Ph.D. studies, she served as a graduate instructor, teaching general music and courses for student teachers. Her dissertation focused on the mentoring dialogues between music cooperating teachers and their student teachers. She began her career teaching elementary and middle school students, where she organized after-school ensembles and festivals. At West Virginia University, she has mentored around thirty music education majors and serves on several university committees. As membership advisor for Kappa Lambda, she has been instrumental in helping the chapter during its regrowth period. Outside of WVU, she contributes to education journals as a review board member. Publications appear in Visions of Research in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, and General Music Today. She has also presented at national and state level conferences including the Society for Music Teacher Education, West Virginia Music Educator's Association, and Mountain Lake Colloquium. Dr. Kym Scott Dr. Kym Scott was initiated as a Friend of the Arts by the Kappa Lambda Chapter at West Virginia University in October. Dr. Scott has been a vital member of the West Virginia School of Music since 2014, serving as the Director of Choral Activities. She has conducted numerous WVU choirs including the WVU Chamber Singers, Mountaineer Singers, and Mountaineer Chorus. She created the Community Choir, which offers a welcoming environment for singers of all levels. As a mentor, she has guided countless students and has been leading choirs for over twenty years. Dr. Scott also offers masterclasses for aspiring choir directors. An Australian native, Dr. Scott received her undergraduate degree in Piano Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, and her Masters in Aural Pedagogy from the University of Queensland. She relocated to the United States in 2011 to complete her doctoral studies at the University of Southern California. Dr. Scott is Artistic Director of the Renaissance City Choir in Pittsburgh and organizes honor choirs for high school students in West Virginia. She has directed choirs in Australia, Asia, Europe, the UK, and the United States, including several performances by the USC Chamber Singers with The Rolling Stones during their "50 and counting" world tour. In response to the challenges of the pandemic, Dr. Scott designed and created safe, resonant masks for singers, launching Sing-Safe Performers Masks. These masks were used by students and performers throughout the United States, Canada, the UK, and Europe.
