Dear Readers, Every new year comes with a new set of resolutions (or, if you're like me, some recycled ones). For many of us, those resolutions are the promise to do more—to better ourselves, our lives, and our communities. And what better way than through music? In this issue, we read about all the different ways we express ourselves through music: through performances, such as the Suffrage Cantata (page 5); through conducting, like maestro Herbert Blomstedt (page 20); and especially through writing music, like composers William Bradbury (page 8), George Gershwin (page 16), and our IAMA Composer-Judges for this year's National Convention (page 6). Alongside the Winter edition of PAN PIPES is also the Annual American Composers Update, which is available digitally on our website. Director of the SAI Composers Bureau, Krista Vázquez- Connelly, shares an update filled with exciting new music, premiers, and recordings. There are several composers new to the Bureau this year, and I hope you enjoy learning about them as much as I have. Most notably, our fraternity welcomes our new Executive Director! Christine Bruns has served Sigma Alpha Iota in many shapes and forms, and will bring that same drive and passion into her new role. She joins the legacy of the amazing women who served before her, all of which are featured on page 3. Keep an eye out for the upcoming Spring issue, where we'll celebrate Ruth Sieber Johnson's retirement after thirty-two years! If you're inspired to share your musical story, interview, or service project, share it with PAN PIPES! I can always be reached at SAIPanPipesEditor@gmail.com. Fraternally, Angela C.
