24 Spring 2025 • sai-national.org Texas The San Antonio Alumnae Chapter attended the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February. The chapter hosted a larger booth this year, which included SAI-themed giveaways and a photobooth. Most of the materials were gone by the end, including information on SAI Philanthropies, Inc. Grants; IAMA resources; and impact reports, along with SAI pens, window clings, and copies of Tempo! and PAN PIPES. Over three hundred sisters visited the booth, including a number of MITs. SAIs at State Music Education Conferences Music Education By Crystal Zamarron The 2025 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention proved to be another extraordinary milestone for Sigma Alpha Iota, as sisters from across the state—and beyond—gathered to learn and celebrate music, forge new connections, and learn about the sisterhood. For the third consecutive year, the SAI TMEA booth served as a dynamic center of inspiration and camaraderie. Amid the heartening performances, clinics, and meetings of TMEA, the SAI booth offered a sanctuary where sisters could pause, reconnect, and recharge. This year, the booth saw record engagement of MITs. It was a rejuvenating representation that new sisters will be joining soon to take part in this cherished sisterhood, to hold the SAI values, and to practice the meaning of art and community. Many MITs expressed excitement about joining soon. If you are reading this now, as a new SAI sister—congratulations and welcome! We have been waiting for you, and can't wait to see you grow in Sigma Alpha Iota. Whether you have been a sister for a year or have been in this fraternity for over fifty years, the amazing legacy that we have come to learn and know will continue for many years to come. With our constant efforts as collegiate and alumnae sisters, we inspire future members to join SAI and become beacons of hope for women in music everywhere. Beyond welcoming new members, the booth also served as an outreach opportunity, drawing in music educators, friends, and family curious about SAI to attend the TMEA SAI Sing. Sisters of all ages gathered on stage, songbooks in hand, to raise their voices in harmony. The room swelled with the sounds of SAI classics like "So Near, So Dear is SAI" and "Pan in Canon" while friends and family looked on. For many, this annual tradition is the heart of TMEA—a reminder of why they joined SAI in the first place. The sheer power of voices united in song, the smiles exchanged between old friends and new acquaintances, and the palpable sense of belonging created a moment that lingered long after the final chord faded. A heartfelt thank you goes to the sisters who organized the event and ensured the space was filled with joy. Your efforts made it an unforgettable experience for all. For SAI sisters, it's also a celebration of the unbreakable bonds that form when women dedicated to music come together. We can't wait to see what TMEA 2026 will bring. Until then, keep singing, keep teaching, and keep sharing the light of SAI wherever you go. Crystal Zamarron is Editor of the San Antonio Alumnae Chapter.
