sai-national.org • Summer 2025 31 2025 VIRTUAL STRING TEACHERS SUMMIT The American String Teachers Association (ASTA) hosts their annual Virtual String Teachers Summit. This year's theme is Sounds of Change: Navigating a Shifting Educational Landscape. Join this 2-day online, synchronous event to build tools, develop techniques, and connect with colleagues from around the country and the world. Event dates: July 14–15, 2025 WEBSITE: www.astastrings.org/site/2025-virtual-summit NATS ARTIST AWARDS The NATSAA competition takes place every other year in conjunction with the NATS Winter Workshop and is open only to NATS members and students of NATS members. Preliminary competitions are held at the region level, with one winner emerging from each of the 15 NATS regions. The 15 semifinalists then gather in early January 2026 at the site of the NATS winter workshop in New York City for the final two rounds of the competition. The winner will then perform at the 59th NATS National Conference to be held in San Antonio, Texas, July 3–7, 2026. ENTRY FEE: $75 COMPETITION DATES: Preliminary region rounds in Fall 2025, with national semifinals and finals in early January 2026 as part of the 2026 NATS winter workshop in New York City. APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 8, 2025 WEBSITE: https://www.nats.org/nats-artist-awards.html MACDOWELL FELLOWSHIP About 300 artists in seven disciplines are awarded Fellowships each year and the sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence. There are no residency fees, and need-based stipends and travel reimbursement grants are available to open the residency to the broadest possible community of artists. MacDowell encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. DEADLINE: September 10, 2025 WEBSITE: www.macdowell.org NATIONAL MUSICAL THEATRE COMPETITION Sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. The biennial National Musical Theatre Competition is seeking the best early-career musical theatre performing artists hoping for a break to advance their careers. To be eligible, applicants must be ages 22–30 on the application's deadline date. Preliminary competition is scheduled in the fall in New York City. Each of five finalist performs a 15-minute showcase. Both callbacks and final showcases are performed for adjudicator panels of musical theatre industry professionals in early January during the NATS Winter Workshop in New York City. The NMTC winner is scheduled to perform at the upcoming NATS National Conference. ENTRY FEE: $90 (or $75 for students of NATS members) APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15, 2025 WEBSITE: https://www.nats.org/Musical_Theatre_Competition.html NATS ART SONG COMPOSITION AWARD Sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc, this is an annual competition with the purpose of stimulating the creation of quality vocal literature through the cooperation of singer and composer. Compositions may be a song cycle, group of songs, or an extended song. NATS offers cash prizes to the 1st & 2nd-place competition winners, plus a performance of the 1st- place winning work at the 59th NATS National Conference in San Antonio, Texas. ENTRY FEE: $30 for professionals; $15 for full-time students APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 1, 2025 WEBSITE: https://www.nats.org/art-song-composition.html NATIONAL FEDERATION OF MUSIC CLUBS COMPETITIONS AND AWARDS The National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) offers more than $750,000 in competition and award prizes on the local, state and national level. The Biennial Young Artist and Ellis Duo-Pianists competitions award a total of $92,000 in awards and two years of performance bookings. Additional competitions are sponsored by the Federation in a wide range of categories, including voice, instrumental music, composition, dance, conducting, handicapped and visually impaired, and music therapy. NFMC also sponsors more than 38 annual and biennial awards for students desiring to attend the 20 sponsored Summer Music Centers.
