18 Spring 2026 • sai-national.org Music Therapy S igma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. is excited to re-launch the Music Therapy Project, a fraternity-wide service initiative that has existed since just after World War II and has been thoughtfully re-envisioned for today's chapters. This project invites chapters to collaborate with a board- certified music therapist or music therapy program to make a positive impact through music. The Music Therapy Project is designed to bring comfort, connection, and care to local communities. Note: Before beginning your project, reach out to a music therapist or facility, as some places may have volunteer requirements to complete ahead of time or protocols that must be followed while on -site. Most facilities will need to schedule performance times and areas for large groups. Collaborate with a Music Therapist in Their Setting If an undergraduate program does not have a music therapy program on campus, members may research local music therapists through the CBMT website (cbmt.org) and reach out to learn about the populations they serve. Chapters can ask whether the therapist would welcome volunteer assistance in a clinic, hospital, or community facility, or support with concert programs or special events. Local alumnae chapters may also partner in these efforts. *Example: Collaborating with a local children's hospital music therapy program to assist with a concert or musical event. Volunteer at a Music Therapy Conference or Event Chapters may volunteer their time and service at music therapy conferences, workshops, or performances that feature music therapy clients. *Examples: Assisting with concert logistics, moving instruments, or supporting event operations during a conference. Partner with an On-Campus Music Therapy Program If an undergraduate chapter is located at an institution with a music therapy program, members are encouraged to connect with the campus music therapy student organization. Chapters can support existing events, performances, or awareness initiatives that promote music therapy within the campus community. Service Project for a Music Therapy Program or Clinic Chapters may organize hands-on service projects that support the physical needs of a music therapy space. *Examples: Painting or cleaning clinic areas, organizing materials, or sanitizing instruments. Educational Spotlight or Advocacy Project Chapters may interview a music therapy professor or professional and highlight their work through chapter communications aligned with Music Therapy Project goals. *Examples: Social media features, newsletters, or educational spotlights that raise awareness about music therapy and its impact. Educational Spotlight: Meeting Presenter/Programming Invite a credentialed music therapist to attend a chapter meeting and provide a brief presentation introducing the field of music therapy. The presentation may include an overview of what music therapy is, the populations the therapist serves, and the therapeutic benefits of music therapy interventions. The music therapist may also guide members through sample interventions or activities, allowing sisters to experience firsthand how music is intentionally used within music therapy sessions. Other Ideas Chapters are encouraged to develop additional creative projects that support music therapy professionals, clients, and advocacy efforts within their communities. Project Expectations: Projects should support credentialed professionals or programs to demonstrate meaningful engagement, promote awareness, and reflect ethical collaboration. Important Considerations: Chapters should not provide clinical services or represent themselves as music therapists. All activities must respect host organization privacy policies and protocols. Upon completion of a Music Therapy Project: The chapter will submit a follow up report via GivaGrant. Include collaboration descriptions, professional contacts, timelines, chapter involvement data, promotional components/materials, and impact. Questions?
