It could be said that without music education, many of us would not be where we are now. In this issue, we recognize and honor those people who have helped us become the musicians we are: our past, present, and future music educators. Of all the many music teachers I've had over the years, I always find myself reminiscing over the first—Mrs. Upright (yes, that was her name!) had a closet-turned-classroom in the back of the school, which fit only a handful of elementary music students. But I'll never forget sitting on that brown carpet, as she sat at the piano—an upright, of course—belting out my favorite songs with my friends. In retrospect, that enthusiastic singing was probably why we were relegated to the back of the school. Mrs. Upright didn't know it at the time, but those moments inspired a lifetime of music. (Or, maybe she did know, as she always encouraged me to keep practicing). To see my sisters and companions furthering the aim of music education warms that young girl's heart. In this issue of PAN PIPES, we recognize those educators among us. Sisters share their experience at Music Education Conferences, where they connected with current and prospective sisters; we learn the benefits of the Orff Schulwerk method; we celebrate those sisters who have achieved advanced degrees and training. And when we need a little support, we can read up on how to overcome impostor syndrome, too. Do you have an article, service project, or story to share? Share it with PAN PIPES! These stories inspire our readers, and I personally love seeing all the ways our sisters impact their local communities and the world beyond. I can always be reached at SAIPanPipesEditor@gmail.com.
