4 Spring 2026 • sai-national.org TEXAS By Crystal Zamarron In February, the Texas Music Educators Association transformed San Antonio, TX, into the epicenter of music education, a reminder for musicians and sisters alike to continue fostering the Sigma Alpha Iota mission in music and friendships. The SAI TMEA booth continues to serve as a hub for people to learn, be, and inspire. Amidst the professional growth, we found that the most pressing task for our collegiate and alumnae members is recruitment and expansion. Many talented students attend schools where our Fraternity does not yet have a presence, or used to have a chapter. We also met high school students looking to see what college life may bring them, and some former collegiate sisters who have yet to take the leap into alumnae life for a variety of reasons. It was a joy to see the different levels of membership join together and inspire one another on what SAI was able to provide for them. Even a Phi Mu Alpha husband came by to say "Hi, my wife was SAI. Passed from cancer five years ago." He had the biggest smile on his face. Additionally, I heard multiple comments that having the SAI TMEA booth was beneficial for sisters to find their alumnae chapter to join. We are proud to have a consistent four years of the SAI TMEA booth to provide those connections. In the same tune, a much-needed alumnae chapter is in its beginning phases for the Rio Grande Valley. If you're reading this and reside in the RGV, join the Facebook group "Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae RGV." We can't wait to see more chapters in Texas in areas that are rich with culture and music. As a reminder, SAI has a Google form on the national website for those interested in starting a collegiate or alumnae chapter in their area. Sisters across the state are looking forward to working together and getting more sisters involved in this cherished sisterhood. For SAI, the TMEA convention was a holistic experience, nourishing the mind, the spirit, and the ear. By exchanging information and sharing their passion for SAI, our sisters were able to plant the idea of SAI. Better yet, we showed sisters—and those who stayed at the convention late enough—the sound of SAI at the SAI TMEA Sing event. From new songs like "Weave" to fun classics like "The Whistle Song," we filled the stage with friendship and love. Sisters who briefly popped into the booth to say hi before their workshop began, or who were so excited to see the booth to stay and chat, were holding hands for the chorale. It is always a sight to see if you ever make your way to Texas. The 2026 TMEA convention, along with the SAI booth, was a resounding success, reaffirming our place in the professional landscape while illuminating the path forward for our Fraternity. The booth is an invitation for our collegiate sisters to look beyond their own campus borders and see the growth of the SAI garden. A huge thank you to the sisters and chapters who helped organize the booth. Each year, we only get better and better, all because of your generosity and efforts to make the booth a welcoming space. We hope to see you again at TMEA 2027. COLORADO In January, the Colorado Springs Alumnae Chapter set up shop during the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference at the Broadmoor. Several chapter members manned a booth over three days, reconnecting with unaffiliated sisters in an effort to re-establish connections with SAI, strengthening connections with sisters local and from out of town, as well as representing our wonderful organization.
