Master Class in oak park Master class students and Rachel Barton Pine. plays the Andante from Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole involving a love story between a young woman and an irresolute man. With other students, she focused on practice tips. She suggested playing difficult passages slowly and deliberately, and ensuring that one's body has muscle memory of playing the passage correctly. That means not stopping practice after one get its right once, but playing it right 20 times in a row before stopping so the body and brain remember it. After the class, Pine answered questions from the audience and played a selection from her new album, Violin Lullabies. In her travels as a musician, Pine gives about one master class a week. She has appeared as soloist with many of the trustee of the Music Institute of Chicago and world's most prestigious orchestras, including as president of the Rachel Elizabeth Barton the Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Baltimore, Foundation. She plays the Joseph Guarnerius del Montreal, Vienna, New Zealand and Iceland Gesu (Cremona 1742), known as the "ex-Soldat," Symphonies, and the Philadelphia Orchestra, on generous loan from her patron. The master class is the second public event that the Oak Park Chapter has coordinated with the Oak Park Public Library. Last year, the two organizations cosponsored a "Behind the Music Career Day" focusing on careers for musicians beyond teaching and performing. To organize the event, the chapter worked with the library's community relations manager, Debby Preiser, and made a written proposal to the library board. "We knew that having Rachel Barton Pine as a teacher for the master class would be a great draw," says coordinator Lisa Grisolia, a Sigma Alpha initiate and member of the alumnae chapter. "With Rachel's schedule and the library schedule, we had several months to plan the event. We were thrilled with the standing-room only crowd in the hall."
