f r at e r n i t y award s 2012 • KATHERINE BECKER • National Collegiate CHAPTER achievement Award The ta Chi Universit y of South Carolina , Tau C, Region VI T eta Chi, at the University of South Carolina, in Tau D Province is this year's National Collegiate Chapter Achievement Award recipient. The chapter focused on successful fulfillment of the National Objectives throughout the year. They formed a Philanthropies committee to focus their giving efforts and ultimately gave $1000 to SAI Philanthropies, Inc., $2000 to local causes (including a guest artist, Relay for Life, and Little Girl Big Dream), and started an annual $500 scholarship for an incoming freshman music student. Chapter members served as ushers for school performances, assisted with audition days, and cleaned practice rooms in the school of music building. Theta Chi hosted a Girl Scout music day for hundreds of youngsters and individual members volunteered in "Music Play" classes for 3-4 year olds. The chapter performed many musicales, one of which was dedicated to collecting small gifts for children through Operation Christmas Child. In addition, Theta Chi organized a "Support the Arts" rally at the South Carolina State House, where members sang and spoke with legislators on the steps in support of music and arts education in the schools.
