Originally named the Special Leadership Award, it was renamed the Dorothy Whinery Special Leadership Award to honor her years of service as National Executive Secretary (from 1956-1992). Convention to Helen May, Graduate Performance Awards Director,1974-1993 Centennial Convention to Bobbie Burk, Past National Chaplain, SAI Archivist Convention to Barbara Staton, Past Inter-American Music Awards Director Convention to Elsie Sterrenberg, National President 1984-1993 D ixie Lou is an initiate of the Tau Chapter and currently affiliated with the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter. She received her Bachelor's of Music Education at the Kansas City Conservatory, her Master's of Music Education at Northwestern University, and completed graduate work at Colorado College, Southern Methodist University–Dallas, Kansas City Conservatory, Kansas State University and in numerous workshops and seminars. She has served as National Vice President–Extension and as president of her college and alumnae chapters. Her SAI awards include the Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Rose of Dedication, and Ring of Excellence. She was awarded the Diamond Sword of Honor in 2006. She is a private piano instructor, accompanist, church organist, and is active in the Musical Art Club, Kansas City Musical Club, and Women's Committee of the Conservatory. Dixie Lou Morris receives the Dorothy Whinery Special Leadership Award from National President Liz Nordling at the Dinner of Honors in Atlanta.
