OPPORTUNITIES 2012 Solo Harp Composition Contest The Composition Contest of the USA International Harp Competition takes place prior to the triennial performance competition. The Contest was established as a part of its mission to encourage composers to write new works for the harp and to promote the harp and harp music. In addition, the winning composition will be performed at the 2013 Alabama All-State Orchestra Festival at the University Of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on February 10, 2013. The winning composer will also be awarded a residency at the 2013 Alabama All-State Orchestra Festival, which will include airfare from any point in the continental US, accommodations, transportation, and meals. Applicants for 11-month Rome Prize fellowships in musical composition must hold a Bachelor's degree in music, musical composition, or its equivalent. Each Rome Prize winner is provided with a stipend, meals, a bedroom with private bath, and a study or studio in Italy. The one-minute pieces are to be written specifically for this project, which will be performed by Anne H. Goldberg. The submitted work must have no prior performances. The competition is open to composers, clarinetists, and musicians who desire to further the repertoire of the clarinet with an original composition. A committee having no knowledge of the contestant will conduct the judging of scores and parts. The winning composition will receive $1,000 and a world premiere performance during ClarinetFest 2013, July Garth Newel Music Center 3rd Annual Composition Competition Seeks unpublished, unperformed unrecorded scores and recordings (MIDI acceptable) for piano quartet (piano, violin, viola, and cello; no electronics) for their 3rd Annual Composition Competition. The winner of the 2013 contest will receive a $2,000 cash prize, performance of the winning work by the Garth Newel Piano Quartet on their 2013 Summer Music Festival, and a travel stipend to attend the premiere in Hot Springs, VA Deadline: Nov 15, 2012 Website: garthnewel.org/Garth-Newel-PianoQuartet/2013-Composition-Competition.aspx 24-28, 2013 in Assisi, Italy.
