" The Healing Power of Music" 2012 National Convention NOMINEES FOR SAI NATIONAL OFFICE, 2012-2015 TERM National President Leslie Odom Miller is completing her second term as NVP, Alumnae Chapters. She previously served the fraternity as NVP, Collegiate Chapters from 1997 to 2000, as Director of Listservs, and as a Province Officer. Leslie earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was initiated into the Zeta Chapter of SAI. She also attended Eastman School of Music, where she earned a Master of Music in Music Theory and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance and Literature. Leslie is an associate professor at University of Florida, teaches private music lessons, and plays principal oboe in Gainesville Chamber Orchestra. She is a recipient of several honors for outstanding service to SAI: Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Diamond Sword of Honor, and Ring of Excellence. Sigma Alpha Iota has always been an important part of my life. ... As a third generation member, I joined as soon as I was eligible for membership. ... I bring to the position of National President the unique background of having served as both the NVP, Alumnae Chapters and the NVP, Collegiate Chapters. ...The National President's role within the fraternity is much more than what can be possibly listed in a job description. ... I believe a positive outlook, can-do spirit, and proactive leadership will keep the fraternity moving forward. ... NVP, Alumnae Chapters Sharla L. Mercado has served the fraternity in many capacities since her initiation into the Eta Pi Chapter at Stetson University. In addition to serving in various offices in her collegiate and alumnae chapters, Sharla has been Lambda C Province Officer and Co-Chairman of the SAI 2006 National Convention in Orlando, Florida. A private piano teacher and Director of Music at Glenwood Presbyterian Church, Sharla earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the Conservatory at the University of Missouri. She has been active in Music Teachers National Association for many years and has served as accompanist and vocal coach for organizations in her community. Sharla is a recipient of several fraternity honors: Scholastic Award, Collegiate Honor Award, Sword of Honor, Rose of Honor, Wreath of Achievement, and Winner of 2000 Graduate Performance Awards from SAI Philanthropies, Inc. This is an exciting time to be a sister of SAI! Over the past several years, we have seen the purchase of a new national headquarters, creation of new national and regional positions, new awards for our members, and a new ritual... .I would like to help alumnae chapters without a local collegiate chapter to find ways to recruit members and be visible in the community... .Additionally, I would like to work with the NVP, Collegiate Chapters, to see if there is a way that these alumnae chapters can provide support to distant collegiate chapters... . NVP, Alumnae Chapters Sally L. Roach is currently serving as Province Officer for Alpha B and Alpha C. She was initiated into Beta Eta Chapter at Western League and Kalamazoo Area Retired School Personnel. SAI honors include the Scholastic Award, Sword of Honor, and Rose of Honor. I LOVE Sigma Alpha Iota... .I take great pleasure in the close personal contacts I've established with sisters through frequent communications and visits... .Alumnae and collegiate members have much to offer one another. The innovative ideas, technical expertise, and enthusiastic, youthful energy of the college women complementing the life experiences, wisdom, and dedication of SAI's more mature sisters make a "win-win" situation for all Fraternity members... . NVP, Collegiate Chapters Christine Bruns, who is completing her first term as NVP, Collegiate Chapters, majored in Music Education at Ithaca College, where she earned both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. While at Ithaca she was initiated into Epsilon Chapter and received the Sword of Honor, Collegiate Honor Award, and Scholastic Award. Christine has been a member of the International Chapter, Ithaca PatronessAlumnae Chapter, and Baltimore Alumnae Chapter. She has served as Province Officer in both Eta B and Tau A and also as Region 6 Regional Officer. Christine has received the Rose of Honor and Wreath of Achievement for outstanding service to SAI. Christine is a private music teacher and serves as an event organizer for Southside Hampton Roads Michigan University, where she earned a Moms and Tots. Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/ Music and Master of Arts in Teaching of with the other National Executive Board Music/Curriculum Integration. Sally has held members for the betterment of the Fraternity, several offices in the Kalamazoo Alumnae improving the resources available to our collegiate chapters, and helping our SAI Chapter and has been a board member for both the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra I have dedicated my term to collaborating Leadership (Province Officers and Regional Officers) to revitalize ailing chapters... .If sai-national.org SPRING 2012 PAN PIPES 15
