GLORIA COATES • NEWS: My String Quartet No. 9, Solo Violin Sonata, and Lyric Suite piano trio have been nominated for the International Classical Music Award 2012. In Oct. 2011, I was guest of honor in a celebration of Franz Liszt's 200th birthday in Hamburg, Germany and six of my works were performed in various concerts in Hamburg. The organization DTKV has selected me for a bio-bibliography which will be used in libraries and universities. Ten have analyzed my music, and it includes an extensive biographical section with a complete list of works, CD and recordings, and a partial list of sources. It should be published in December 2011. I am currently working on a new piece for the 30-piece clarinet choir, CLARIBEL, from Belgium, commissioned by Guido Six, conductor. The work is to be presented at the Midwestern Clarinet Conference in Chicago, Dec. 2012. Commissions have also come from cohn the New Asia Society for a new chamber piece, as well as from the guitarist David Galvez for a new piece for guitar and violin. LINDA ROBBINS COLEMAN • • • • • NEWS: She spent much of the 2010 - 2011 season on leave from music in order to care for her 92 year old mother who died in August. During this time she worked on a collection of original poetry scheduled for publication in 2012. In February, Coleman agreed to serve as a judge for the SAI IAMA competition, and was commissioned to write a work to be performed at the 2012 SAI National Convention. Her music continues to be widely performed and broadcast throughout North America and Europe. She is currently working on commissions for string orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz coleman band, and choir.
