A Word from the National President G Dear SAI Sisters, will enjoy reading about the many SAI members being honored this year. From creative service projects to National Chapter Achievement winners, from our reetings to you all! What an exciting time to be an SAI — as it is a convention year. I hope you are planning to be in Atlanta August 2-6 for our 2012 National Convention. Our theme is The Healing Power of Music, and I can promise that you will take home memories that will last a lifetime. Our conventions are so special because of you – our members. Every SAI can participate in some way — as a performer, a workshop presenter, a member of the Strolling SAIs or the new Strolling Strings, or in the SAI Wind Ensemble, or as a volunteer. The call for presenters and performers is posted on the SAI website, so please consider submitting your ideas for a workshop or offering your talents for a musicale. To highlight some of the things you can look forward to, see the overview of the schedule on p.4 of this issue. We are particularly delighted to have Member Laureate Dr. Joyce Johnson presenting a concert of organ music on Sunday, August 5 — hope you can be there! Note also that the triennial competitions for Undergraduate, Jazz, and Graduate Performance Awards are this year, too. The fall issue of PAN PIPES always highlights the awards that have been given by the Fraternity and by our charitable arm, SAI Philanthropies, Inc. I am sure you outstanding collegiate members to our dedicated alumnae members, SAI offers opportunities for many expressions of the love of music. Initiating Distinguished Members is one of the many ways the Fraternity acknowledges contributions to the field of music, and the lifelong achievements of Dolly Parton, our newest Honorary Member, certainly speak to her commitment to humanity. I know you will find her career interesting and inspiring. Opera premieres, live competitions, reviews of new recordings, invitations to mentor new music educators, announcements for new opportunities — this issue is inviting you to sit down with a cup of tea and start reading!
