The book was inspired by John Cage's Notations, and includes works that have important visual aspects. Smith received a musical award from the Florida State Association of the NLAPW on November 20th 2009. The award was for the instrumental score written for flute, cello and piano If I Were Three (Individuals). On smith 1/17/10, Mrs. Smith was featured at the Sarasota Allegro Music Academy, "Meet the Composer" presentation. Students of the academy performing Halide's piece, Birinci were flutist Victoria Williams, violinist Katherine Williams and pianist Shanil Wijesinghe. Also, pianist Mary Webb introduced My Friend Judi, Eerht Dnilb Ecim and Anniversary Song. PREMIERES: If I Were Three (Individuals) by Estelle Schultz, flute; Elenita Musgrove and Karolyn Silbough, Cellists; and Beverly Whitby, piano at the Sarasota Branch of the National League of American Pen Women Musicale in in Sarasota, FL on 1/13/10. GAY HOLMES SPEARS • NEWS: Gay Holmes Spears received an ASCAP award, was a lecturer for the Community Music School of Webster University Summer Composition Intensive and was an adjudicator for the Arden and Harry Fisher Young Composers' Competition for the Community Music School of Webster University. PREMIERES: American Mosaic, a composition for woodwind quintet, was performed numerous times in public concerts, schools, and educational centers in the St. Louis, Missouri area, beginning in 10/09 and continuing throughout the spring of 2010. The work was commissioned by the Equinox Chamber Players for their 2009-2010 season as part of their dynamic musical and educational program, Immigrations: A New Place Like Home, for which Spears served as Composer-In-Residence. PERFORMANCES: American Folk Hymn, Mugwump's March, and Reflections on Wondrous Love by the University City Summer Band directed by Tom Poshak during the summer of 2010.
