This group excelled in the area of outreach, organized by its outreach co-chairs, and in meeting the National Objectives." Outreach activities on campus were geared toward providing service to the music school and raising awareness of the chapter. Activities included: Penny Wars held to raise money to purchase paper for the school's budget strapped computer lab; a Halloween costume contest to create a sense of community within the school; a "Shave the Music" event to raise money to fund the purchase of a new scanner for the school library; and volunteering at Audition Days. Additional activities — offering free coffee for all students on the first two days of class while displaying SAI literature, hosting a Guitar Hero night and a spa night, and providing free refreshments during finals week — enabled the chapter to bond and raise its profile among the student population. Off-campus, the chapter accomplished three major community outreach projects: a College Survival seminar, which provided a 6-week introduction to the study of music at the university; a Magic Flute high school outreach program which introduced Mozart' opera to local students and culminated in attendance of the campus performance; and participation in the School of Music's Relay for Life. At each chapter meeting the group's efforts to fulfill the National Objectives were discussed and brainstorming sessions were held to find new ways in which members could individually contribute. Chapter members attended and developed relationships with area alumnae, R DS 2010 researched and discussed the origin of various ritual quotes during Fraternity Ed sessions, and performed music on musicales that represented their majors and would be used for therapy or education in the future. Despite the loss of one of its large annual fundraisers, Sigma Sigma worked hard and was able to continue the tradition of giving $1,000 to SAI Philanthropies. Effective and professional communication were stressed at all times, and music by American composers and performers was presented in various venues. In support of music education, the chapter worked in collaboration with the Minneapolis/St. Paul Alumnae Chapter to create and coordinate a "movement curriculum" for Northdale Middle School's string program, where students participated in a solo and ensemble festival, received private lessons, and presented a concert for the community where donations were collected for the music program.
