DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS DISTINGUISHED continued from page 37 Gibson's compositions have been recorded on Golden Crest (The American Music Project, Clarion Wind Quintet, 1979) and Spectrum Records (Soundscapes, 1982; Music of Robert Gibson, 1986). Chamber Music, a Capstone compact disc of his chamber works, appears on Fanfare magazine's 1996 Want List as one of critic William Zagorski's five notable recordings of the year. Gibson is Professor and Director of the School of Music at the University of Maryland, College Park. Matthew C. Hagle Matthew C. Hagle was initiated as a National Arts Associate by the Oak Park Alumnae Chapter in May. Pianist Matthew Hagle lives and works in the Chicago area, having performed at the Ravinia Festival's Martin Theater, Symphony Center, the Chicago Cultural Center, and live from radio station WFMT, among other venues.  He has performed in England, Australia, and Japan, as well as throughout the United States.  His recent solo performances have explored the often neglected masterpieces of the 20th-century piano repertoire and connections between newer and older music, including pieces of Copland, Carter, Ives, Schönberg, Messaien, Ligeti, and Takemitsu.  Since 1999, he has been principal Hagle collaborator to violinist and SAI Honorary Member Rachel Barton Pine, with whom he presented the Philanthropies Benefit Concert at the 2009 SAI National Convention. He has joined her for performances around the United States, including a recent recital at the U.S. Supreme Court, as well as appearances on National Public Radio 's Performance Today, St. Paul Sunday, and the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.  In 2005, he joined Pine for a series of performances of the complete works for violin and piano by Beethoven, live on WFMT.  He also performs with members of the Chicago Symphony and as a piano duo with his wife, Mio.  A dedicated teacher of piano, chamber music, music theory, and composition, Hagle currently is on the faculty of the Music Institute of Chicago.  His students in piano and composition have won prizes in local and national competitions.  He also has taught at the University of Notre Dame, Elmhurst College, and the International Institute for Young Musicians at the Universities of Kansas and California at Santa Barbara.  In addition to teaching composition, Hagle has composed pieces for solo flute and piano that have been performed in Germany and Japan.  He was a laureate of the 1997 American Pianists Association Competition and one of 36 pianists chosen to compete in the 2000 Sydney International Piano Competition.   Matthew Hagle earned his Bachelor's Degree at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University and his Master's degrees and Ph.D at Yale University, receiving faculty prizes in piano, accompanying, and music theory.  He has also received a Fulbright Grant to study piano privately in London.   His teachers were Claude Frank, Robert Weirich, Donald Currier and Maria Curcio Diamond. friend of the arts Dr. Richard R. Anderson Dr. Richard R. Anderson was initiated by the Kansas City Alumnae Chapter in May. A magna cum laude graduate of Bethany College with a Bachelor's Degree in Oboe Performance and a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, he joined the President's Own United States Marine Band after graduation. Earning his Doctorate of Dental Science, he became a resident in Maxillofacial Prosthetics at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston. During that time, he performed with the Houston Civic Symphony. He held the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 1978 until his retirement in 2004. His family, including Alpha Alpha initiate Marylen Nelson Anderson, formed their own performing group including oboe, English horn, flute, piccolo, cello, string bass, bassoon, and vocals. For the past thirty years, Anderson has performed with the Kansas City Symphony and Civic Opera and Puccini Festival. Dr. Martin Benvenuto Dr. Martin Benvenuto was initiated by the San Francisco Peninsula Alumnae Chapter in September. Dr. Benvenuto distinguished himself in many fields of choral music, including conducting, singing, and teaching, and as a clinician. He is noted for commissioning and 38 PAN PIPES FALL 2010sai-national.org promoting works of living composers. He frequently collaborates with choirs for the San Francisco Opera, Oakland East Bay Symphony, and Kronos Quartet. He is the director of the Peninsula Women's Chorus, artistic director Benvenuto of WomenSing, and a faculty member of Foothill College (Los Altos, CA). He earned his undergraduate degree in choral conducting and composition at the Universidad Catolica Argentina, his Master's from Westminster Choir College, and his Doctorate at Boston University. Keith N. Hatschek Keith N. Hatschek was initiated by the Eta Omega Chapter at California's University of the Pacific in May 2009. During a twelve-year stint with Music Annex, Hatschek worked as recording engineer, producer, project manager, Director of Client Services, and Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He led Music Annex's diversification efforts from traditional recording services into duplication and digital audio post production. From 1995 to 2001, he headed Keith Hatschek & Associates, a San Francisco Bay Area-based marketing and public relations firm serving the entertainment and media technology industries. He accepted a full-time appointment in 2001 as Director of the Music Management Hatschek program at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. He lectures frequently around the country on music industry careers and consults with a number of music industry companies. He is the author of How to Get a Job in the Music and Recording Industry and The Golden Moment: Recording Secrets of the Pros. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Graduate Certificate in Marketing from the University of California, Berkeley. James J. Machan James J. Machan was initiated by the Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter in June. A recipient of the chapter's scholarship in the late 1950s, Machan has gone on to serve as a choral director, organist, composer, music educator, and clinician for the Wisconsin School Music Association, American Guild of Organists-Milwaukee
