"Not everyone will be suited for the Kennedy Center Internship but the many other opportunities provided may fit their situation and it is hard to pass up an opportunity that can move you forward in your career." "It is such an advantage and privilege to be a member of Sigma Alpha Iota. When someone sees SAI on your resume, you know that it means something to him or her. As SAIs, we should take advantage of these opportunities given to us and help in the future to bring these opportunities to future SAIs." Angela is looking forward to taking what she has learned at the Kennedy Center and applying it to the rest of her education and her career. She is grateful to SAI for giving her this opportunity. "This type of internship that included both performance and management is really what I needed to help in preparing me for graduation and my career." When asked what type of SAI should apply for this opportunity in the future she said that anyone who is majoring in a program similar to hers would definitely benefit from this opportunity. It is a management-geared internship and that type of interest is needed even though any musician would benefit from what the internship had to offer. "The internship provided seminars every week on every aspect of the operations of the Kennedy Center. They provided us with information on fundraising, marketing, and career/soft skills for a music environment. That type of experience is invaluable to my career." "Being able to meet people that influence the arts, especially music, at a national level is very rewarding. We had the opportunity to bring the SMI participants to the offices of the Senators and Representatives from their own states. The students performed for them and discussed with them how much music means to them. Being witness to this is very rewarding as these people have control of financial decisions that support the Kennedy Center and the SIGMA A 2013 PHILANTHROPIES AWARDS N T HR O LA HI • d octo r a l g r a n t • E li zab e t h Lee A International Chapter n initiate of Theta Omega as Texas State University-San Marcos, and current member of the International Chapter, Elizabeth is currently working on her PhD in Music Theory through the University of Oregon.
