Dear PAN PIPES readers, I t may sound cliché, but Spring always ushers in new life, new energy, and, for SAI, new members! Collegiate and alumnae chapters are celebrating their newest members, while the fraternity has added four new collegiate chapters to our ranks. On behalf of our sisterhood, I congratulate and welcome all of our new sisters! It was a distinct honor for me to represent SAI at the Memorial Concert in November, 2013, held to honor our beloved Helen May. As demonstrated by the many friends and family in attendance, Helen touched so many lives, including my own. I never imagined that a simple phone call in 1987 from Helen telling me that I was a finalist in the SAI Graduate Performance Competition would come full circle with me as National President honoring her at this Memorial Concert! Helen had an unerring sense for recognizing extraordinary musical talent in the many people she met over the years. She guided those young musicians, giving them opportunities to hone their skills, and provided performance venues, often in her own home. Through her personal example, she has demonstrated how each SAI sister can further the cause of music throughout the world! SAI members continue to make a difference through the sharing of music – whether it be making music together in Nashville or in sending instruments, supplies, and music to needy countries through our People- to-People program. As a Fraternity, we continue to bring comfort to others as we promote the healing power of music. May your personal musical journey this summer bring joy to yourself and others through the sharing of the glorious sounds of music! In SAI sisterhood, Leslie Odom Miller, National President PAN PIPES is always accepting new article submissions and ideas. Email inquiries to Editor Heather Lam at panpipeseditor@gmail.com.
