PAN PIPES sPRIng 2014 saI-natIOnal.ORg 10 from different members of the Fanfare Band; almost all of the students now have instruments of their own so they can practice at home and no longer have to share instruments. e Fanfare band in Cange continues to grow and serve their community by performing for many occasions including weddings, funerals, parades, and church services. anks to the generosity of SAI sisters from Gamma Omicron at Bowling Green State University, as well as money from the Haiti Redevelopment Fund, the P2P Project was able to send a shipment to the band this year that included two flutes, a clarinet, and drum sticks; these instruments were carried to Cange by members of the medical staff of Partners in Health. ecuador e People-to-People Project continues to assist the International Director of Sinfonia por la vida National Arts Associate Dr. Albert Hunt by sending lightly used stringed instruments to the students and teachers of the program. anks to the work of the Des Moines Alumnae chapter, especially chapter president Teresa Hein, violins and violas are already in Ecuador allowing even more students to study music and make a better life for themselves. india Eileen Nadzam continues her work at the Olmo Ling Bon Buddhist Center Yungdrung Bon Monastic Centre in India, teaching both violin and viola to her students. We are thrilled that five instruments were sent to her this year from the Des Moines Alumnae Chapter, three violins and two violas. ree of the instruments are already in India and the other two will travel with colleagues to the monastery this summer. anks also to the generosity of Rokford Alumnae Chapter member Mary Kuchenmeister, Eileen received violin chin rests, Suzuki method books, and other materials that will assist with her work in India. United states Eta eta Chapter member Renee Kerr continues her work as a music teacher through the YMCA in the greater Charlotte, NC area. In addition to her recorder classes and general music choir, she is now able to offer aer school percussion classes, including Bucket drumming. anks to the Warren/Youngstown Alumnae chapter, Renee received a large shipment of music education materials, including Silver Burdett texts and other graded music education materials. Alee Karpf (Recreation erapist) and Deaconess Nan Gordon (volunteer director of the HONOR Music Program) were grateful to receive the donation of a guitar for the Veteran's Administration HONOR Center (providing Hope, Opportunities, Networking, Outreach and Recovery) from the Melbourne/Vero Beach Alumnae Chapter. is guitar, along with other previously donated materials from the P2P Project, made an immediate impact on the residents of the Center, a 45-bed residential rehab facility to help medically – involved Veterans transition from homelessness back to housing and health in the community. eir music program introduces the Veterans to new leisure possibilities or reinvigorates old hobbies that have since been forgotten or lost. ontario I first met Shannon Linton, Executive Director of SONG (Sounds of the Next Generation) in Newfoundland, Canada while I was presenting at the Phenomenon of Singing International conference.
